You are right; the vehicle service contract is optional, as well as the tire and wheel coverage. We are happy to cancel the coverage if you choose to self-insure against the exposures of ownership; you have 30 days to get the premium refunded in full, and after that, it becomes pro-rata. Whether it's optional or not is not the issue. When I specifically asked that question of clarification to Xavier in our signing, he told me only a portion of the service contract was optional. I said the exact phrase "is this something I have to have, or am I able to opt out" and he replied "you're only able to opt out of part of the coverage... Like the tire portion" which he then clicked and opted out of. This presents the entire service contract as something I CANNOT opt out of. This is incredibly misleading and he is incentived financially to mislead me in such a way. Hence the trope of the dishonest car sales people. It was not a 'misunderstanding' like he tried to claim it was when he finally called (because his boss made him after a public review was posted). I don't expect him to take responsibility, as admitting his wrongdoing would cost him greatly, but I would prefer not to be called and gaslit further. We were happy with our experience with Jay, and are disappointed that it was tainted by Xavier. We will not be doing any business with Ed Martin in future.
