2011 Chevrolet Camaro Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition Convertible In both 1967 and 1969, Chevrolet was selected to pace the beginning of the Indianapolis 500 with their beloved Camaro convertible. For 1967, the car was painted white with blue stripes and a blue interior, but the more famous car-and arguably one of the most famous Indy Pace Cars of all time- was the white and orange car from 1969. In 2011, the Indianapolis 500 celebrated the 100th running of America's most famous race, and what better car to pace the race than a 2011 Camaro in a 1969 tribute livery? Painted in the same striking color scheme, Chevrolet built just 500 examples to commemorate the running, and they were fitted with numerous special features. This 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible Indianapolis Pace Car Edition is one of those 500 cars and shows just 7,329 miles at the time of cataloging. Finished in Summit White with Orange stripes on the exterior with a black soft top, this car is immediately identifiable as a pace car- and the Official Pace Car graphics on the door confirm all suspicions. From the factory, the car was fitted with a beautiful set of 20-in 5-spoke wheels with a polished finish, as well as HID headlamps and unique tail lamps as part of the RS package. The black fabric top is power retractable, and is fitted with a heated, glass rear window. Inside the car, the color scheme continues with Inferno Orange leather on the seat surfaces, and a unique white and orange dash panel that mimics the exterior stripes. In addition, the door cards are a combination of black and white leather, and the center console features some black leather with red stitching. Additionally, unique Indianapolis 500 stitching can be found on the headrests of the front seats, as well as the door sill trim. The transmission is fitted with a unique Hurst shift lever, and sitting in front of it is a small gauge pod with 4 auxiliary gauges- just like you would have found on a 1969 Camaro SS. The interior of this car remains in excellent condition and shows hardly any wear on the seating surfaces or touch points. Under the hood sits a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 which produces 426 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, and is known for being one of the most dependable performance engines out there. In this car, that engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels through a limited slip differential and Brembo disc brakes sit at all 4 corners. Chevrolet built over 3,700 of the original 1969 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Camaros, yet for this 2011 example, they produced just 500. Under the care of two owners from new, this is bound to be one of the best examples out there and would look perfect in a collection, parked next to a 1969 car. For the enthusiast who wants to own a piece of history from the most famous race in the United States, it doesn't get much better than this.
