My Review of Antwerpen Toyota:
We almost bought a Prius from here. They are fantastic cars--though a little pricey, but that's something I could live with if I bought one from a dealer I liked. One of our friends has one and LOVES it, and I'm into new technology.
While the dealer we worked with seemed like a nice guy who knew his cars, he was very VERY pushy. Some may say it's a car dealer's job to be pushy, but calling someone 9 times in a row without leaving a message is harassment. Besides, why would you have to harass someone into buying a car which should sell itself?
Another thing he did which really ticked me off is he talked to my husband the entire time instead of me--even though it was going to be MY CAR paid with MY MONEY.
Still, the Prius gets fab reviews & I heard awesome things about Antwerpen's service dept from our friend (though I'm not impressed with the reviews here nor their stupid "free manicure" on Tuesdays campaign--they should just treat women like equals if they want us to buy from them) so I made the mistake of hanging around to financing.
When the finance director tried to cram a $2K extended warrantee on us (a good car shouldn't NEED an extended warrantee--but Prius are new technology with a mere 3 yr bumper-to-bumper)--I was less than impressed.
He then told us he didn't think he could match a rate I researched (he hadn't even ran a credit check yet), & he then blabbed about how we should buy the service plan and that he spends $100 to have oil changed on his BMW. At this point, we decided it was time to leave.
Well, I ended up buying a VW from Laurel. The dealer we purchased from was very easy-going and polite, and we ended up getting an interest rate 2% BELOW the excellent one we got from the bank.
When I called back to tell the Antwerpen dealer I wasn't buying a Prius he was rude. I tried to politely tell him I appreciated his time and would would recommend him to other ppl interested in Toyotas in the future (NOT NOW), but he talked over me and told me I made a bad choice.
This was a very different experience than what we had with a Honda dealership off the same road. Their dealer was VERY polite, easy-going, and gracious even though I turned him down, too (not his fault--my heart just wasn't into the Civic--though it is a SWEET car for the money).
My husband will be buying a new Japanese car next year--guess where he will (and will not) be buying it from?
