Priest walks into this dealership. Almost gets manipulated into signing a bad deal on a car for a needy family that has fallen on hard times & needs a vehicle before Thanksgiving. Almost gets manipulated into signing a bad deal on a car for a needy family that has fallen on hard times & needs a vehicle before Thanksgiving. Sounds like a joke, but unfortunately, its true. Here's what happened. Wife wants a kitted Wagoneer so we go here banking on their sterling reputation. Sales guy & manager I'm working with seem cool & we agree on terms. Later, I'm at church & I strike up a convo with our pries. He tells me about this family that's fallen on hard times. The man of the house is looking to drive for Uber & needs a used SUV so he can qualify for Uber XL, maximize earnings. Priest says, "While you are out there can you look for a suitable used car?" I said sure Padre, I just happen to know the place. Later we go to dealership so my wife can sign the paperwork while we look for a used car. Sales guys seems to love the idea of helping this family & we pick a good option, but they don’t really budge. He says makes more sense to send the car to auction plus the church is buying it tax free so "its a great deal" We left. Next day buddy & I talked and agree to come up, but its outside the church's budget so we reach into our pockets because tis the season, call the manager and we agree on a price, 19,500otd. I tell the guy over the phone "So its done at 19,500otd, right?" He says, "Done deal, 19,500otd." So I say, "OK so should I bring the priest now & close this thing? He's a busy man". He says, "Bring the priest" Padre & I walk in an hour later (this was 11/17). Wagoneer deal was not completed the night before due to an issue with financing. I tell the guy my wife only has a 30 min lunch so she has to be in&out. He says no problem, call her now to come. I ask the guy to review the paperwork with me to save her time so all she has to do is sign & dash. BIG Problem, its the wrong VIN number. I don't know what happened here, but it made me feel like there was shady business afoot. I look up the VIN, sure enough its a cheaper Wagoneer. I call them out, they swear its a mistake. The sales manager I've been working with is not available. I call him asking if he's jerking me around. He also swears its an honest mistake. My wife gets there & signs the first set of papers but as we wait to be taken back to financing, sales guy comes over & says there's a problem on used car. Suddenly they can't do 19,500otd, now want 23k. I tell them we agreed on 19,500 & confirmed with the sales manager. They call the guy who claims we never agreed. That is when I realized the type of dealership we were dealing with. I told them that car is for God, if God doesn't get his car then I won't abandon Him after everything He has done for me, two car deal at the price we agreed on or NO deal. They insist its not possible. I ask for the GM. After several minutes, some sales manager comes over. He tells me he is the highest ranking person in the dealership right now (2pm on a Friday, mind you) I explain what happened. He doesn't care. Deal only closes at 23k because "they made a mistake” I point out how much of the priests time, my wife's time & my time they had wasted & now they reneg on the deal as a way to wear us down. They don't care. I remind them who the car is for & how happy they were to "help” I ask if this is how they do business by "mistakenly" changing VIN numbers on deals right before they close & reneging on after agreeing. They don't seem to care about anything other than maximizing their profit. So we left. In the end, you don't screw around after you've made a commitment on a deal. You don't try to take advantage of priest looking to help his congregation. You don't mess with a family in need. All for what? To make more money? Is this a reflection of their storied values? If you go to here, keep one hand on your wallet & another on your keys, because you are coming out in only two ways. You are either getting robbed or going to rush out of there screaming for your sanity! More
