Reason for Visit: Sales (New)
I recommend this dealer: No
My Review of Darcars Toyota of Silver Spring:
My husband and I have had two of the worst experiences trying to purchase new cars from this dealership within the past year and I would NEVER EVER RECOMMEND ANYONE buying a vehicle from them. They are disrespectful, rude, dishonest and not at all professional.
Last fall we intended to purchase a new vehicle over the weekend. We visited the showroom but left outraged and disgusted. Our son is very tall and we needed to measure the seats to make sure that he would be able to fit comfortably. The sales person made many disrespectful and non-humorous comments. It is our understanding that one of the reasons given to take a test drive is to make sure you are comfortable. But not according to this sales person who insisted upon laughing and degrading us. Poking fun at our son with special needs is not a laughing matter. He also explained that "even an idiot could sell a Toyota." We took our business to elsewhere.
Just a few weeks ago we decided to give them another try, thinking maybe our first experience was a fluke. We were treated nicely by a new sales person Chris and his manager, Abdul. We told them about our prior experience and they apologized. We made a deposit to purchase a 4 door Yaris hatchback that had to be brought in from another dealership. Upon arrival we came to inspect and everything seemed OK. They put the keys in the sold drawer and we decided to finish the paperwork later. We returned to finish the paperwork at a prearranged time and found that our "SOLD" vehicle had been test driven twice by different parties and even "SOLD" to another party, even though we had put money down on it and we were in the showroom. We were in shock and absolutely outraged that other sales people had continued to sell the car with a BIG SOLD SIGN on the window. It was not an accident since the sales people had to purposefully get the car from a back lot, take the keys out of the sold drawer and let people use it with a big sold sign in the window.
It seemed as thought neither Chris or Abdul knew anything about the car being test driven or sold. At first they tried to make a few accommodations. Chris was new and seemed totally shocked at what happened. BUT, the blame rests with upper management - Ethan and Steve.
Steve, rather disrespectfully and very business-like, explained that they had someone who would take the car we had made a deposit on immediately [a bird in the hand scenario...]. Then he left. As we tried to grapple with the situation and asked questions of Ethan to see if he could get us a new car or investigate our options, Ethan APPROVED the sale of our car to the other couple. Before we knew it, they drove the car out of the lot. We were shocked. [I have since learned that they have done this before to other customers]
We decided to get our money back and not deal with them. That was another fiasco. I had to argue to get my money back and get a receipt for the return of our money.
I would never recommend going to this dealer. I explained our outrage to Chris and Ethan and have repeated requested that Steve, the general manager call me but so far he has not. I have tried to contact Tammy Darvish also, but all I got was the customer service person. Tammy has not returned my calls either.
I am not sure if it was legal to sell a car that we had a deposit on. However, I am sure that we were not treated respectfully, honestly, or professionally. They are not an honest dealership. Do not give them any business.
