I found the car that I wanted on their website for a great price. Since I was 30 miles away I called and verified that it was in stock and not sold. At first everyone was great, Ozzie and the sales manager were talking and joking around with me. I felt like this was a good dealership. After taking the car for a test drive, I went into the sales managers office with my check book in hand to buy the car. The manager said that car was sold and he could get me another, but not at the internet price. I don’t know how they could sell the car that I came to see and was out on a test drive. I was the only one in the dealership and ready to buy. I was devastated! I felt that it was clearly a case of bate and switch. The next day the car was still on their website. This dealership gives all dealers a bad name. I sure hope the Illinois States Attorney and Volkswagen of America does something about their sales practices. VW does not need any more bad press. #gurneevwbateandswitch #BobRohrmanVW #LisaMadigan #VolkswagnofAmerica More

I've come to expect a bit of bait & switch in car sales but these guys take the cake. Car was advertised online, on their website, at just over $35k. I read all of the fine print, no red flags to be concern but these guys take the cake. Car was advertised online, on their website, at just over $35k. I read all of the fine print, no red flags to be concerned with listed there. Called ahead to confirm the car was available and that the price was correct- they confirmed it was correct. OK, cool- I'll come in and see it. Show up, car is there- great! Then, the nightmare begins. First bit of paperwork comes out... all of a sudden the price is just over $45k, and over $48k after tax, title, license, and doc fee. HUH? The price jumped nearly 30%. Has to be a mistake, right? "Well, you see, we installed $3k of extras, and you don't qualify for any incentives, so the price is actually this, blah blah blah." Keep in mind, the website does NOT say that their price was dependent on any incentives. I read them all of the fine print from their own website. It's all irrelevant, apparently. After a number of "let me go talk to my manager..." moments, we go back and forth with little movement. Just to throw them a bone, I agreed to pay more than $1k OVER what they had the car listed for online... just to give them SOMETHING to possibly work with. Not happening. The kicker was when they tried to muddy the waters by claiming that this price was only valid if I put down a $5000 downpayment, by pointing to some language within a section of text that describes how you could achieve a particular monthly loan payment. Ummm, sorry, but no. The only number I was interested in at that point is the sale price of the car- we'll talk loan terms only once that is agreed upon. In case I'm not being clear- they were saying, essentially, that if I first put down $5k... only THEN could I pay $35k MORE to buy the car. Everyone else in the world understands that means the price of the car is actually $40k, but they actually tried to convince me that by first giving them $5k, THEN I could buy the car for $35k, and that's what their $35k sales price on the website meant. It was EASILY the single most offensively stupid thing I've ever heard come out of any salesperson's mouth, ever. My jaw nearly hit the floor after they tried to pull that nonsense. Unreal. Needless to say, that was the end of our conversation. Under no circumstances will I ever set foot in this dealership again. I've bought & sold a dozen cars over the past decade, and I've never experienced anything remotely resembling this. I know dealers love to get a little extra here and there on BS paint protection packages and pointless custom pinstriping and undercarriage rust protection and blah blah blah. It's mostly nonsense, and I'll put up with a smidge of it, but this was egregious. Calling this experience deceptive and false advertising would be the kindest possible thing I could say about what happened. Buyer beware. There are hundreds and hundreds of VW dealerships in the country. Find a different one. More

Then suddenly they call me up and tell me that the car is in high demand and I have to put down $100, which they said would be refundable if I didn't buy the car. I didn't buy the car because it had things wrong with it that they never mentioned;. They told me that day that they were going to refund my deposit. They didn't. I called them again when my statement came. Again, they said they would refund it, but they didn't. I have now reported them to the credit card company. Oh, and the car didn't sell after I test drove it, so I think the story about how someone from out of state was really interested in that car was a figment of their imagination. More
