My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
Not a very friendly dealership to visit or do business with. Spoke to service manager regarding rude culture of the dealership and was talked down to. I own 2 BMW'S and will never recommend Herb Chambers BMW to any one. Employee's seem generally miserable and if management's ability to resolve problems is an indication of the general state of affair there I can see why everyone from valet, parts, sales and especially service is so angry. After going there so am I!!!!!

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I have leased two BMWs from Herb Chambers so far, (over the past 5 years). Most of my service visits have been for regular maintenance but even on the occasion of flat tires, venture shield repairs, springs, leaky washer fluid check valves and warning lights, the service department has gone out of their way to schedule visits in short order and even let me drive in immediately to handle the issues.

Every single time (without exception) from the person answering the phone to the final explanation or transaction I have been treated with respect. My car is always done on time, and I have not had any issues with any of the work.

The service industry is one of the toughest to work in especially in a technically challenging environment such as automobiles. The people at Herb Chambers deal with some of the most stuck-up, disgruntled, and ignorant people I have ever met and from what I have seen they all handle each case with professionalism (beyond the limits of any normal human being's tolerance). They take the time to explain the situation surrounding the repair so that it can be understood, and put in the extra hours and effort it takes to fix the issue timely.

I have and will continue to recommend Herb Chambers for services and sales.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I had a great experience shopping for my 3-series here. I am from New York and I called around various dealerships in the northeast. The customer service was superb. I spoke to a manager prior to visiting the dealership and he was very informative and not pushy. During my visit the sales staff was very helpful. Even after the sale their great service continued with a follow up call just to see if I have any questions and to see how I am liking my new car!

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
My car went in for regular service, service that should have taken an hour or two... I got it back with pen on the leather part of the door (I have a light interrior)... called them 2x got no response or call back

- took the BMW of America survey, told them my complaint ... heard back the next day from Fabio- He said that the dealership wanted to give me a free interrior detail- ... We brought the car in the next day at 9am.
At 4 we contacted them to schedule a pickup time. The first thing i was ask is do you have a spare key. Having 4 numbers to contact no one had contact me all day to let me know they locked the key in the car, instead they tried to JIMMY THEIR WAY into my 2007 car, just over yr old!--- They destroyed the door, two windows, dented the roof... GOSH ONLY KNOWS WHAT WENT ON! ....

DONT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE!

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
Our 2007 BMW 530xi started advising us about a month ago to bring it in for an oil change in the next 1700 miles. Finally, I figured it was getting close enough to the line to call up for an appointment. Today was the appointed day. I brought the car in early 7AM, met S/A Mike Brayman who wrote the car up, promised completion in 90 minutes, and I then went to the waiting room. Exactly 90 minutes later, Mike came looking for me, explained what they had done (including replacement of the wiper blades), gave me the key fob and I was on my way. I am mystified about negative comments regarding this dealership. As far as I can tell, I'm just another customer who is treated with great courtesy, and respect.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I took our BMW 530xi for annual service, even though the car's electronics said I had another 2800 miles to go until oil-change. Ali Kooros was my Service Advisor. He promptly handled the transaction, checked the car's keycode, and then assured me that the annual oil change would be done in 1.5 hours. Exactly 90 minutes later, he found me in the waiting area, and put me back in my newly-cleaned car with a smile and a handshake, and told me how he valued my business. I don't think you could have a better service visit.

I had set up an appointment with this person 2 days ago for tonight at 7pm. I was supposed to have recieved a confirmation but did not. Called today to make sure, Crista was not in. Was informed that they had my information and looked forward to my visit.

I was running late and called to inform them of the fact. No Crista, no Patrick, no one had any idea I was coming in. I was told that I should just show up and they would assit me.

Why go to the trouble of visiting the website, fill out all the forms, make an appointment, only to have no record of it.

Waste of time!! If I wanted to be treated like crap, I would have gone to Rodman Ford

Look at the work which Herb Chambers did on my car before you buy any car from one of his companies. Since, a BMW would be fixed by the same people as a MB if you had body work on. I looked at BMWs but did not like the service Herb Chambers offered and there are no good BMW dealarships around here in my opinion

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
The visit today was the final one, the arrogance and rudeness is too much. I had several visits here, from great to terrible.
My service experience with Chambers' service dept had been excellent and deteriorated to the point that I won't go back. When I first went there, it was an urgent small fix that a very decent service rep took care of right in the driveway, he didn't even enter the car into their database. The next time, the tech test drove and agreed with me and fixed an expensive item. The next time, they made stuff up about how another problem was not actually a problem and it was normal. BS. They adjusted the parking brake, then on the way home the car started jittering and banging and I had to stop. I drove home slowly, no other problems. I jacked up the car and tried to spin the rear wheels and guess what, they were binding with the parking brake! So much for quality work. The mechanic could have at least spun the wheel to check it but no.
Another independent mechanic drove it and said a part was really messed up on the suspension, and showed me. Jim et al said they couldn't see it, the tech was lazy acting and unconcerned, and they were very rude about how any tech other than their own could diagnose a fault. I was reminded how this mechanic is an "expert BMW service technician"... the guy who did the parking brake?
Then, telling me "it's normal for that model of car", then "well I don't see anything wrong"; well which is it, normal or non-existant? As long as you leave, that's all that they want. Condescending, challenging the customer, constantly reminding me how much they did for me and how much time they spend, I feel guilty for bothering them. Forget that place. The worst thing you can do is tell a customer he's wasting your time.
In summary, Chambers is good for scheduled services like oil changes, avoid them if you have a problem.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
the service is OK, and i continue to take my 325i there because it's convenient and I trust them a little bit more than most other mechanics. but i would never buy a car from any of the herb chambers dealers. i looked into getting another bmw a couple of years back and the service was awful. the salesman was condescending and the trade-in offer was an insult. everything about the experience was unpleasant. i recently went into their toyata dealer, thinking i might get a hybrid. the salesman there was worse, if that is possible. he didn't want to give us a car to test drive, and then didn't go with us when he finally got around to getting a car for us. then, the calls kept coming from one creepy representative after another trying to get us to come back. never again.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I purchased a 330xi from another dealer in another state, unfortunately, it has some electrical quirks. I always take in for servicing to Chris at Herb Chambers, he consistantly takes excellent care of me. I had a failed engine thermometer last week, and my wood shifter had a crack in it to no fault of mine. The thermometer was fixed in excellent time, and they replaced my shifter w/out any issue. Every time I have an issue (probly twice a year), I call and schedule for Chris. Jim took care of me a couple times when Chris was away, and he did an excellent job as well. I do know the prices at this dealership are a little higher though due to their conveniant location, and probly due to taxes in the city as well at their location which are passed on to customers. Either way, still an excellent service experience.

Not a single returned call. I was in the shop 4 times in as many weeks. Mike and Jimmy both have a condescending manner. You're a service representative and yet you have no service skills? Really? They also trash talked other BMW dealerships, usually a sign of incompetence. They proved that with their actions, as the service department twice fixed one problem only to create another one.

What a nightmare -- talk about arrogant. They make you feel like you are the lucky one to have them talking to you... and to top it all off, they don't really listen to what you want -- rather, they just push on you what they want to sell.

Went to Norwood BMW and had a completely different experience -- bought my brand new X5 same day from there... so make the trip to Norwood if you really want a BMW.

(I live in Beacon Hill, so I would have preferred the convenience of Herb -- but never again)

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I bought my 2007 BMW 530xi into Herb Chambers BMW for a scheduled appointment for dealing with some issues regarding electronics and ventilation. Service Advisor Jim Miscioscia took me in hand, got the car into the system, knew what the problems were, and arranged for a loaner (2007 BMW 328xi). When parts were late in arriving, Jim called me, said to keep the loaner another day. Called again the next day, said parts were being installed and asked me to come by an get the car. Reverse transition was just as painless...drop the loaner, chat with GM Melissa Steffy, and take away the 530xi, now updated, blowing air in the right way, and clean. Everything was great, and all the other customers I saw picking up cars seemed as happy as I was.

I walked into the dealership, wanting to test drive the new 330i (a few years ago). After waiting for what seemed like 1/2 an hour to get a sales guy, the sales guy told me that he only had 330xi's. I told him that I didnt want all wheel drive, and that I wanted to test a 330i. He told me that "no one buys 330i" anymore.

I told him "not from you anyway", and I walked away.

FYI... I purchased a 330i from Foreign Motors West, with whom I am very satisfied.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
My experience with Herb Chambers is from 2000 through 2004. I ordered a 530 there and the sales experience was low pressure and pleasant. My car was serviced there while the free maintainance was available, and the car was always properly fixed, the service mgr went out of his way to explain what was needed and why and they even stayed 45 minutes late on a Friday as I was running late to pick up the car. The 2 drawbacks for Herb Chambers BMW is their location is hard for me to get to, and their rates are somewhat higher than my trusty independent mechanic 10 minutes away.

My experience with Herb Chambers has not been remotely like the negative comments posted here.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
This is a six-months-after-the-sale report regarding my sales experience, and my first service contact. We took delivery about 10/1/2006 of a BMW 530xi. Price was right, trade $$ were good, and the sales & delivery experiences were exemplary: 1) treated with respect, 2) pressure non-existent, 3) none of the expected pressure from the financial guy, and 4) Jason Canulla provided the most complete new-car explanation I've ever had.

First few days were great. I discovered that the Navigation system was not equipped with the expected traffic reports, but Herb Chambers GM Melissa Steffy has gone to work on that issue, and I'm expecting a positive outcome there. Car has had no issues, and after buying ten new cars from 1967-2007 this BMW was the first which had no driveability/preparation/mechanical issues from the outset.

I stopped by for my first-in-six-months service contact today to try and resolve electronic problems. Jason introduced me to Asst. Service Mgr. Chris Anslono who immediately set me up with an appointment for the work with a loaner car in a couple of weeks.

I know Herb Chambers in general has gotten a reputation for shoddy practices, esp. here at DealerRater, but this BMW Center has shown me nothing but good stuff. I'll report back regarding the service experience after it has happened.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I recently discovered this site and had to share three bad experiences with Chambers Motorcars. All three times I was very serious about buying, but Chambers is one of those places where they make assumptions about your appearance. In October 2005, I went in to get a deal on a leftover 2005 325ci. First, the salesperson starts working from the MSRP, even though they had clearly published discounts for all leftover 2005 BMW 325ci's. Secondly, they offered me a below wholesale value on my trade. It was the first time I ever just got up and walked right out. Of course, they didn't even make a counter-offer. It was as if they didn't want to sell me the car. Sadly, they're the fools because since then, I've purchased not one, but two brand new BMW's from BMW Gallery of Norwood. It's unfortunate, since Chambers is conveniently located within walking distance of my house; however, pigs will be flying before I ever walk into a Chambers showroom again.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
On my last visit on Tues Jan 23, I brought in my car for an inspection sticker, a brake light replacement, and to unjam the CD player. Herb Chambers Service Department took 2 hours to complete the inspection sticker and single brake light replacement, and refused to unjam the CD tray in the changer without billing me for about 2 hours of $120/hr service. Next, they did charge me for disposal of the one brake light, a fee of $4 for throwing away one light bulb.

On my previous visit on New Years Eve, I brought in the car for an oil change. That service took 8 hours to complete and I received no notice as to progress and when it would be finished from Marco. After waiting at the dealership for 2.5 hours on NYE, they brought me the car at 4:30 without it washed. Marco told me I can bring it in later next week for the "complimentary wash" after service.

I refuse to work with them again, or buy a car from them or from their associated dealerships. I hate to be nickel-and-dimed and Herb Chambers's BMW does that extremely well.

Yeah, I just wanted to second the vote for Chris. I've been in a few times and he's been really good. I sort of feel that since I have a measley 3 series that I might get less attention, but I'm treated well and almost always get the car back with work done the same day or next depending on what needs to be done. Maybe there is a problem if you take the car in at a busy time... seems like it can get packed in a hurry. I also can get a ride to and from work when I drop it off. Anyway, Chris is solid and will give you the straight line.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
Service was absolutley horrid when my X5 was towed in after having some transmission problems at 5900 miles. The service advisor, Marco, is a complete jerk. I will never deal with this dealership again. He seems like a very lazy person and didn't go the extra mile to help me out.

I had initially asked for a loaner car or some sort of assistance for me to get around, seeing that my car was not mobile. He told me that in order to be provided with a loaner, I would have had to purchased the car at their dealership. Ok, that's understandable.

So I asked if my car could be towed to the dealership I purchased the car at, with no charge. He tells me I would have to call them up. I asked him if he could provide me with the number (BMW of Peabody), and he tells me, he doesn't know the number and I would have to call 411. I didn't want to get charged for dialing 411 on my cell phone so I asked if I could get my car keys to get back into my car, where I have the buisness card of the dealership. He tells me, the keys are in the car. At that point, I was like, what the f*ck. I just walked into the service dept with the guy who parked my car, AND HAD THE KEYS WITH HIM. At this point, he decides to tell me, "Oh, let me just get the number for you." Didn't he just tell me he doesn't know the number?!?!

After I talked with my own dealer and confirmed that loaners are complimentary at the dealer you purchased your car from, I had no choice but to leave the car at Herb Chambers. The guy then recommends me to take the train back home. If I was to do that, I would have taken me 2 hours to get home, transferring from train to train, bus to bus. At that point, I was just too upset, walked out, and had a friend pick me up.

Besides that scenario, the guys's tone of voice was absolutley not accomodating. Their service area is just plain sh*tty, at least compared to BMW of Peabody. Expect me to file a complaint and and for me to give them a horrible review when BMW calls me up to do a customer satisfaction survey.

I hope this guy gets rammed into when a car pulls into the service bay. He's also lucky I was sober and tired, or else I would've beaten the sh*t out of him and left him for half dead.

The only good customer service I got was from BMW Roadside Assistance and the tow truck company and driver.

Found out the aux input didn't work when I plugged in my MP3 player, went back to get it fixed, they fixed it and they scratched my new shift knob. Still waiting 2 months to get new (2nd) shift knob. My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I called Herb Chambers BMW on a Saturday morning because my 2003 325Ci had suddenly starting running like crap - it shook violently and seemed like it wasn't running on all six cylinders. Their service department was open on Saturday, unlike every other dealer in the area, and said to bring it in that day and they'd take a look at it on Monday. BMW Roadside Assistance came by with a flatbed and dropped me and the car off at the dealership, I explained the problem and some other issues I was having to SA Chris Anslono, and took the train home.

Five hours later, at 5:15 PM, I got a call saying my car had been fixed (failed ignition coils). Chris was kind enough to stay an hour past their closing time for me to come pick the car up.

Obviously there are some horror stories about them, but my experience with the Herb Chambers Service Dept. was top-notch. Even though I'm still in my teens and didn't buy the car from them, they treated me with respect and courtesy, and performed the work faster than I had hoped.

They also obeyed my request not to wash the car, which most other dealerships seem to have trouble with. I will definitely be going back.

Ordered a Mini S, we were told it would be a year (ok), and 8 months later car was in. Ok, but bad timing, we live on Nantucket, but we can come in a month. Received several "harassing" phone calls to "come get it off the lot. We need the space." I explained I couldn't get a ferry reservation to get the car over to ACK til a month hence, PLUS, it did come in earlier than they said. A month later I arrive at my arranged appt to get my car ($100 plane ride, $45 cab fr Logan) and I'm told by Norm, "Oh! Your car's not ready! We always like to meet the people first (get money), then do pick-up later." Hey pal, I'm not adopting a chinese baby...I'm buying a car!!" I marched into the manager's office(12 years old) and said 'I don't want to deal with Norm. I don't want him to get a DIME of the commission. And I want my car.' We "built" the car ourselves anyway (on line), so no salesman desreved a commission. Long story short: I had to go back a week later ($$$$$) and get my car. And who did the orientation?? NORM!! He was nervous as he knew what I'd said about him. I was BS. That pr#*k of a sales mgr did that just to see me twist in the wind. Stay away from Herb Chambers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
Horrible Service Experience

I have a 325xi, which is still covered under the maintenance and warranty. The rear brakes have been squealing for two months. Also, when I last took the car in, the service department (at a different dealership) had told me that the rear springs were broken and needed to be fixed under warranty.

I made an appointment two weeks back with Herb Chambers BMW to have these two problems addressed. I took the car in today and was told that if they looked at the car and "were not able to replicate the problem", I would have to pay for the costs of inspecting the car.

I proceeded to explain that the car was covered under the warranty & maintenance plan, the car had a problem, and they ought to diagnose and fix the problem free of charge. I was told that they would be unable to look at the car unless I agreed to pay the potential charge for the inspection.

Needless to say, I took my car and left. The worst part is that I bought the car from Herb Chambers too--and I have received much better service from other dealerships over the last two years.

I do hope that someone at BMW will take note of this matter. For those in the Boston area, I would suggest that you avoid the Herb Chambers service department if possible. They will waste your time and give you the run around.

Great dealer. Every time I visit, I am greeted warmly and any issues I have are taken care of with efficiency and the utmost respect.

I bought my car from Vad Friedland, and he walked me through the entire process slowly, and all in one day. I got my 330i for MSRP, and he threw in clear sides, and indicators, gratis! He himself drives a 330ci, so he is very familiar with the car, and informed me of any issues to look out for. Two days after I signed the papers I was driving my 2003 330i.
After I negotiated the purchase with Vad, I was off to take care of financing with Vien Ton, he was very friendly, and did everything under his power to keep my monthly payments under $500, via really low rates. It took him a while to search for the best financier, and found what I needed. Super guys and great to deal with.
I recently had my first service, and I was in and out in about an hour. They offered a loaner, but it wasn't necessary. The tech took the time to field any and all questions, and even answered some that I hadn't thought of. He also helped with some modification questions, and was enthused about my ideas of making my car perform better.
So far, I've only had one issue with this dealer, the parts department. These guys need to get their act together. I have special ordered a number of things from them, and they never call to tell me when things are in. Also, when I do call, they've said that the parts are in, and when I arrive, the parts mysteriously disappear, or were never ordered to begin with. Overall, that's a minor complaint. I think I'll always be happy with Herb. Chambers that is :)

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I ordered a MINI Cooper S from Herb Chambers. I was on a waiting list for a number of months and one year before the car was even due into the US, they called and wanted $2000 deposit. $2K A FULL YEAR in advance!!! $2K deposit for a $20,000 car??? Sorry. Their greed cost them 8 sales. Between co-workers, friends and family, we purchased 8 MINI's from New Country MINI in Hartford. They actually followed the rules that MINI North America put down and refused to take deposits until the cars were actually in production. Never again will I consider Herb. No wonder he drives a McLaren F1! He is making money on all of your DEPOSIT money!

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
I got my 2003 M3 from Herb. From my first visit to the dealership until my final purchase there was a 2 month gap. During that period, Vien in sales contacted me continuously wanting my business. After literately shopping around the entire state, Vien was able to offer me the best deal and the fastest delivery time. Most importantly, the purchasing process took 30 minutes max with minimum negotiation. I highly recommend this salesman to anyone that is in the market for a BMW. However, I personally have not experienced their service department yet, wait for my follow up when I go for my 1200 mile service.

My Review of Herb Chambers BMW:
The first time I went there, the salesperson I dealt with (I forgot the name) was totally uninformed of the European Delivery program and not interested in getting information.
I went back a week later to see if they were willing to match an offer I had from another dealership farther from my home. I spoke with a different salesperson who went to the sales manager who was not interested.
Definetly a place I will not go back to.
