My Review of Honda Village:
I contacted HondaVillage because I was looking for a specific make & model not in stock at the first dealership I stopped by. HondaVillage told me they had it on the lot. I was asked to be very specific about the time I would arrive so that I could meet with the most qualified salesperson, Mike. When I arrived on time, I met with Jorge, who told me he’d been employed for 2 months and who later shared that had not yet passed all his professional exams for this job. Jorge told me they didn’t have this car on the lot.
I explained that I only wanted to obtain pricing information, having once already taken the car out for a test drive. He insisted that I drive a model higher than the one I wanted to purchase on the test drive. I accepted because I didn’t want to upset someone who was eventually going to control a portion of the cost of the car.
Upon returning, I explained that I was a first time car buyer and that I needed to see all the numbers (cost, add on fees, APR) prior to committing to any agreement. I was handed a vehicle purchase agreement. I asked if this was always the process. Jorge said yes. I asked if this was the only way for me to get financing information. Jorge said yes. I said I’d prefer a credit check form only because I was not ready to make a commitment. Jorge again told me I had to complete the sale paperwork to get financing information but that it was fully refundable and he understood my request. I again asked if this was reversible. Jorge said yes. Not entirely convinced, I asked if I could return this car because I am only filling out this paperwork, to get financial options. Jorge said yes again. He said I couldn’t meet with Joe until I filled out the purchase request.
I met with the business manager, Joe, who told me my credit score allowed a certain APR. I told him I would plan to finance with a company through Lending Tree which might offer better rates. He told me Honda Village would not accept a check from this kind of online company. Sensing my disinterest in Honda financing, he told me he could change the offer and give me a better APR.
I explained to Joe & Jorge that I needed time to think, this being a big decision for me & first new car purchase & left the dealership.
I came back the next day and said I wasn’t sure about the price and I was not in agreement with my financing options. I met with yet another salesperson who would not meet the price I wanted for the car. I wasn’t sure I was getting a fair price and I said I’d come back, same day, if I wanted to buy.
The general manager called me 3 minutes after I had left. He was irate and described the situation was like “holding a gun to [his] head” and told me I wasn’t going to get my money back and I needed to come back and work out the numbers with Jorge if I didn’t want to lose the deposit.
I re-entered the dealership and met with the General Manager. He spent about 10 minutes berating me on the sales floor telling me that I owed Jorge this money because he had spent over an hour with me the day prior. I stated my lack of interest in dealing with this dealership due to 1) financing being less favorable than I had hoped 2) price being less favorable than I had hoped 3) confusing changes to what my financing offer could be from Honda 4) pressure over having to sign a purchase agreement to get APR information 5) being harassed about the deposit and general discomfort dealing with the manager 6) dislike of the general process.
He called me into his office and told me for the 6th and 7th time that I wasn’t going to get my money back because I was a bad person for trying to check competitors prices. Finally he relented and told me it would all happen automatically and my deposit would be returned. It wasn’t. I called for a week and spoke with 2 business managers and was then reimbursed.
