Chilson Automotive Group was started in 1959 in Osseo Wisconsin. We sold Rambler automobiles. In 1960 we moved to Eau Claire and expanded our sales territory.
Soon Rambler was acquired by the Wisconsin based American Motors Company (AMC). With the newly formed entity, we were able to sell Renault and Jeep automobiles in 1969. With these franchises Chilson Inc now had a small fuel efficient vehicle line as well as a full line of sport utilities and trucks.
In 1975 the Subaru franchise was purchased from a local dealer. At this time Subaru specialized in inexpensive, reliable, fuel efficient vehicles. Soon Subaru would offer four wheel drive sedans and wagons . At the time no other manufacturer offered any vehicles with the four wheel drive option in small fuel efficient vehicles.
In 1987 Chrysler purchased the American Motors Corporation. In 1990 we purchased the Suzuki and Isuzu franchises from a local dealer group.
In January 2004 we purchased our first Chrysler and Dodge store in Chippewa Falls. In April 2008 we purchased Corner Motors in Cadott.
Today, the Chilson Family has three dealerships in the Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls area. Chilson Subaru in Eau Claire, Chilson Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat LLC is located in Chippewa Falls. Chilson's Corner Motors in Cadott features the fulI line of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Ram and Heavy Duty/Commercial Ram trucks.
All seven siblings are involved with dealerships...Steve, Lynn, and Jeanne work as the management team at the Eau Claire store. Mark and Kate manage the Chippewa Falls location. Deb and Matt head up the team in Cadott.

Buyer Beware I recently drove 2 1/2 hours (5 hours total) to buy a car that I did not end up purchasing from Chilson's. I had inquired about a 2014 Jeep Grand Che I recently drove 2 1/2 hours (5 hours total) to buy a car that I did not end up purchasing from Chilson's. I had inquired about a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee previous to driving to the dealership. I was ready to sign the paperwork and drive it back. I worked with the sales person over the phone initially. We reviewed what was advertised on their site and the auto check report over the phone. The sales person indicated that there was a small amount of damage reported on the autocheck report but it was cosmetic and had been repaired. "Maybe a bird flew into it," is what they said. When I arrived at the dealership I immediately noticed that features in the ad were not on the vehicle. Specifically a tow package and backup camera. The response by the salesperson was that a 3rd party website posted their vehicles and they weren't responsible for the description. Really? If you are selling a product you should make sure your advertisers accurately represent your product. It takes about 2 minutes to update a website. We needed a car so we continued and took the vehicle for a test drive. I asked for the CarFax report. When I returned I noticed an alert on the CarFax report--it said, "Passenger front-damage reported, passenger rear-damage reported, driver front-damage reported, driver rear-damage reported, structural damage reported, air bags deployed." I was in shock after reading this and that I wasn't made aware of this in advance of driving 2 1/2 hours to the dealership. I walked out of the dealership. The salesperson merely said, "Maybe this isn't the car for you." No apology, nothing else. I can't believe I wasted half of a Saturday. Buyer beware of this dealership especially of the currently listed 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am going to make sure to share my story with as many people as possible in hopes that they can avoid a similar experience. More
