The "bad news" was that because after getting under the hood, they saw that it wasn't the entire catalytic converter that needed to be replaced, they didn't actually have the part and they'd have to keep the car overnight. The good news was that it would cost $1000 LESS. In my opinion, not many (maybe not ANY) dealerships would be honest about such a thing and might just "fix" it anyway. I kept the loaner an extra day and picked up my car with an extra $1000 in my checking account. I very much appreciate honesty and I feel that I can trust the service department to advise me as to what the car really needs. Thank you Quantrell Volvo.
