Our experience with Straightline is worthy material for a sitcom episode. We chose a vehicle, declined a test drive, stated we'd be paying cash, made an acceptable deposit. We were told we could pick it up sitcom episode. We chose a vehicle, declined a test drive, stated we'd be paying cash, made an acceptable deposit. We were told we could pick it up in a couple of days. We were to pick it up Monday morning July 17th. We got a call at 8:30am on the 17th from our Salesman that our car was ready to be picked up. (GOOD NEWS!) Half an hour later we got a call from the Sales Manager that there had been a hailstorm on Saturday night and we couldn't pick up our car until all damages to inventory had been assessed by their insurer.(BAD NEWS!) Another half an hour later, a call came that (GOOD NEWS!) our car had been in the shop for detailing for Monday morning pickup and hadn't been damaged. Then we spent two weeks begging them to let us take possession. We were told "a couple of days" ":tomorrow" "next week" etc. I've never heard so many conflicting explanations from Finance, Sales, Salesl Manager, We were repeatedly told (granted a hail storm slowed things down a bit while their insurers okayed inventory to be released) that our car could not yet be picked up. At one point, our Salesman told us there had been a second hailstorm and that the insurers would be doing another check of all inventory. Hours later, the Sales Manager called to say the Salesman had misunderstood something and that there had NOT been a second hailstorm and we could pick our car up in a couple of days. In a couple of days, we were told it was still not released for pick up. At last, we opted to go to another dealership (non KIA) to look at what was available there. We decided to return the loaner from Straightline and give up on our first choice. When we arrived on the lot we saw the car of our choice fresh from a car wash sparkling in the sun near the entrance door. We went in and asked if it was indeed ready for pickup now. We were told "no" and that all sales and finance people were in a meeting. We were told we would have to come back another time to get our deposit cheque. Suffice it to say, we didn't leave until someone came out of that meeting and returned the deposit cheque two weeks after they took it. Seriously. After all, they only had to tell us they didn't want to sell us the car.) The crowning moment was an email from the General Manager stating how sorry they were that they were "unable to earn your business and offered $500 off the next vehicle we bought from them." I just replied "Rick, you've got to be kidding." He better get the full story from his staff. More
