Seller's Comments
In 1991 the continued existence of the Corvette was genuinely in question. Sales had declined enough that Chevrolet General Manager Jim Perkins was called before the GM board to justify whether the car should continue at all. The board ultimately agreed it should, and the 1991 model year arrived with the most significant cosmetic update the C4 had received since its 1984 launch, including a new slimmer front fascia, wider body-side moldings painted to match the body color, and the return of true dual exhaust for the first time since 1974. The decision to keep the Corvette in production led directly to the C5, the C6, and everything that followed. This example is finished in black over black leather and has lived an exceptionally well-documented life from the day it left the factory. Under the hood is the 5.7 liter L98 V8 backed by the six speed manual, producing 250 horsepower and a top speed of 163 miles per hour. The C4 generation dominated SCCA Showroom Stock GT racing so thoroughly from 1985 through 1987 that the sanctioning body eventually banned it from competition entirely, which tells you everything about the platform's capability when driven the way it was designed to be. The adjustable performance handling package fitted to this car sharpens everything the chassis is already capable of, and the six speed puts every bit of it directly in your hands. Inside, the black leather interior is clean and well equipped with the Corvette Preferred Equipment package including electronic air conditioning, the Delco Bose sound system, six-way power driver seat, and a removable roof panel. The original window sticker showing $39,569 with $6,564 in factory options comes with the car, which is the kind of documentation that tells the complete story of how this Corvette was built and what it cost when new. This car has had two owners, both retired car collectors, and has been driven June through August each year. It has been serviced annually with Mobil 1 and a GM filter, and comes with a full tank of gas and a folder of service records. It shows 22,500 original miles. For a C4 Corvette that is 34 years old, that combination of mileage, ownership history, documentation, and annual care is essentially impossible to improve upon.
