I recently had to tow my car to Acura TSX 2010 service department after it would not start. Prior to this day, VSA code P0341 and Emissions Code P0420 were illuminating on my dashboard about a week befor department after it would not start. Prior to this day, VSA code P0341 and Emissions Code P0420 were illuminating on my dashboard about a week before. I took my car to a mechanic as recommended to have a Modis computer analysis done on my vehicle. Neither prognosis was good, the test suggested that I needed either a Catalytic Converter or Camshaft/Crank Shaft Sensors or Timing Chain replaced. The timing chain, was recommended to me to have it done by the dealership only. When my car didn't start, I knew where to go. A gentleman named Chris, Service Advisor called me when my car arrived. I explained to Chris, what I had found out, gave him the codes and he suggested that they look into the vehicle to determine what the issue is. Labor cost to look into the Camshaft/Crank Shaft Sensor or Timing chain was going to be at least $450.00. He told me once this was completed, they would have a better idea of what the car needed to get back up and running, so I knew this was something I had to bite the bullet and just let the professionals do what they needed to do even though the labor cost seemed quite high, but what do I know? I'm sure the labor it took to find the problem was not something easy even for highly qualified service technicians? Chris called me back to let me know that yes, sure enough it was a timing belt/chain repair along with all the other parts, VTC Actuator/Cam Tensioner/Cam Arm/Cam guide etc. The cost of labor / parts etc. Whew! I had to think about this one since this would have been quite a 'hardship' for me. After I explained my situation to Chris, he said he will do what he could do for me to bring the cost down? I thanked him and told him I would call him back. We all know, especially as a women that we will all reach out to all of the mechanics we know and talk it over, educate ourselves, look up the cost of the OEM parts from Acura, labor cost etc. I worked the numbers and took advice from some very dear friends to see if negotiating a 'fair' price was something I could do? Chris did what he said 'he could' do for me still feeling like this was not a 'fair' price and I decided to reach out to the Service Manager on Monday since I was told he was not in the office. Chris called me back with additional $$ off, the parts would be in Tuesday and they could start the work for me. I decided to go along with the repairs since I needed my car back. Chris kept me up-to-date on my vehicle and was very polite. When I picked up the car, I spoke to the Manager, Bobby and received a 'fair enough' price. So I paid and was on my way. My car runs great! I appreciate these two gentleman that were both courteous and professional, respectfully willing to work with me to negotiate a lower price to where it was fair for me and a fair living for them. Thank you for your compassion and straightforwardness. The repair was done with the highest quality of parts and labor. More
