Sorry to hear about your experience thus far Mr. Myers, My name is Gus Hoelscher and am the Service Director here at Austin Subaru, and a former Senior Master technician myself. You are correct that our team did diagnose your check engine light due to carbon buildup on the 27th. I also understand things going on outside of vehicle repairs may have been more pressing so it takes some time to return our call/text, but due to a delay in approval which came on the 29th, and the extensive nature of the job, the work would not be able to be completed until Tuesday. On Friday the 29th during your conversation with our Service Manager Brandon, you explained you were an Uber driver and needed your car. We offered for you to take the vehicle so you could work all weekend, but you chose to stay in the rental. Much to our dismay, due to the current new vehicle inventory shortages, we have been forced to deplete our loaner fleet by 50% and currently are very short on availability unfortunately so we have to book out loaners almost a month in advance. We are equally unhappy and frustrated about this situation and I do wish we had a loaner for you. The previous repair you mentioned with a cost of $1,700 was for an AC compressor that failed, a wheel stud replacement, and a TPMS sensor with the latter two being a problem another shop caused. This had nothing to do with the CEL and is unrelated, although it was initially diagnosed during the first visit in which the spark plugs were replaced. On your first visit with the CEL, the spark plugs were found to be severely worn and possibly original. That job was $682.75 and was the first step in getting your CEL figured out, and the intermittent short in your compressor diagnosed. These plugs need to be replaced as a starting point for any misfire code simply due to their poor condition. After replacement, the vehicle was running well and the carbon buildup rarely causes driveability issues but does cause enough of a minor misfire that the engine’s sensitive knock sensor can pick up. The remaining leak repairs are simply recommendations that our technician found and are typical for a 127k mile vehicle. We always do a thorough MPI and let our guests know of any and all issues we may find with their vehicles to inform them. These leaks were identified and recorded during both previous visits as well. It is solely up to you to proceed with those repairs or get a second opinion. In closing, we still are aiming to have your vehicle completed on the 2nd as promised. Hopefully, this helps clarify the timeline. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
