Rob, As I explained previously, AutoMax collects sales tax as a retail establishment for autos. When purchasing and titling a pre-owned vehicle for Personal use, sales tax must be paid on that item. The Sales and associate and Cash attempted to explain that we collect sales tax on our merchandise. You were persistent at trying to avoid letting us collect the proper tax amount. To the best of my recollection, your reasoning was that you read (or heard) somewhere that dealers keep the sales tax funds, and they never get paid. I committed to making sure that the sale tax got paid. I asked you to do some research on the company in hopes that you might feel more comfortable dealing with AutoMax. I presented the Certificate that you sent to the Florida Department of Revenue. Florida Department of revenue said it was invalid. The Certificate was not a resale certificate for a license automobile dealer. It would appear to be a classic car trading certificate, not a Dealers License. I'm not sure who denied you the right to look under the vehicle, I asked around but couldn't come up with a name. AutoMax has customers take the vehicle to their personal mechanic on a daily or weekly basis. We understand that customers like the piece of mind of a second opinion. AutoMax partners, and is in contract with AutoCheck for the vehicle history reports. AutoCheck is a part of Experian. AutoMax does not have a dealer agreement with Carfax so we can't provide one. I discounted the vehicle beyond internet sales price to help offset the sales tax a bit. I would like to ask you to consider your review because I feel that AutoMax, and myself made every reasonable accommodation. We were also upfront about our business process. Thank you.

Tony, You have come up with several convenient sounding excuses to deny me the transparent opportunity to purchase the car on the surface but actually do not hold water, so I am confirming my complaint . I am sure you would agree that I am not your average buyer, not some desperate idiot who has bad credit and comes to you as the only resource in the world and has to utilize your financing. I have have been around the block a few times buying, selling many cars personally and through reputable dealers such as Carfinders and Koons over the last 30 years so I do my homework. So your commitment to pay the sales tax doesn't pass muster as I mentioned the State of Maryland MVA only accepts sales tax collection from Maryland dealers or directly from buyers in Maryland. Our MVA supervisor specifically warned me about this. If you were serious about paying the 6% tax, (even if you do not keep it or send it to Florida instead) you would have offered to give me a check payable to the Maryland MVA (during the course of the sale) that I could take them to pay the tax. Further, if you were really actually interested in selling me the car, in your last email, you would have responded by offering me the price of $32,200! The fact that was never offered to me makes me suspicious as well. Its more likely you lowered the price of the car for a quick sale as there may have been something seriously wrong with it and did not want me to discover the problem(s)! It was Cash who denied me the opportunity to look at the car under your lift. Any dealer (or any consumer for that matter) can order an individual Carfax report so you do not have to have a "contract" with them. But sometimes Carfax and AutoCheck do not reveal all the issues with a car if they are not reported to their national databases which is why a physical inspection is in order. You were not up front- you denied my a written sales order. As a result, we could never determine the "proper amount" of tax as you suggest. This and all of these reasons mentioned above add up to the fact that you did not want to sell me the car and were looking for an uninformed consumer (i.e. idiot) to sell the car to instead! Don J. with Carfinders has been recognized as a top 20 dealer Manheim Auctions and has worked with many reputable car dealers in many states for many years and confirms that your business practices are shady. My several experiences with him are actually the opposite of yours. Perhaps to your surprise, he actually runs a transparent, profitable business with returning customers over years and positive referrals, which is a much better way to run a sales operation, rather than burning customers one at a time such as in your case. He not only sells classic cars, but also decent late model vehicles which is accepted by many dealers (and Manheim). I have perused many similar negative Automax reviews on Yelp where you have a 2.5 rating which confirms this as well. As a result, perhaps, you (and Pearson management as well) should change your tactics!
