Brought car in for 1st service ever, plus the NYS inspection. I thought it would take a while so took a long walk, but to my pleasant surprise car was ready very quickly. Bay Ridge Subaru has been my service center for four models over 20 years. I'm my experience they've always provided respectful and responsible customer service. I can't comment on the economics as I have not done deep comparisons. My preference is to have Subaru trained technicians working on my car. The renovated waiting lounge is a plus with comfortable seating, big windows, clean restrooms, numerous power outlets for many people to charge their devices, strong wifi and complimentary water and coffee/ tea bar.
