When I buy my next Subaru, I'm going back to Bill Kolb Jr. After having a completely dreadful experience at a large chain dealership (let's just say their colors are blue and yellow, kind of like Ikea), I did After having a completely dreadful experience at a large chain dealership (let's just say their colors are blue and yellow, kind of like Ikea), I did some more research online and found what appeared to be exactly the vehicle I had been looking for. I called Bill Kolb, Jr. Subaru first thing Monday morning and was transferred to Howard Bonfield. That's where my experience with this dealership and Howard began. Howard was exceptionally courteous and professional over the phone and he disclosed all the pertinent concerns about the vehicle I was inquiring about BEFORE I got in my car to drive 90 minutes to the dealership from out of state. While Howard would probably be required to disclose this information at some point, he could have easily waited until I got to the dealership, but he didn't. He was honest as could be and very upfront. Based on that alone, I had a good feeling that Howard was the kind of person I wanted to do business with - honest, straightforward and super knowledgeable. When I arrived at the dealership, Howard somehow recognized me (possibly by my car that I was potentially trading in) and greeted me by name as soon as I had one foot in the door. He was well prepared with additional information that I asked him to gather regarding a 2015 WRX STI. We chatted for a bit and then went out for a test drive. Howard was able to explain different features of the vehicle. He was also able to instantly tell me about the differences between the 2015 and 2017 models I was comparing. When I expressed some concern about the sound of the turbocharger in one STI (this is my first STI), we drove another one to confirm the sound was fine - Howard was very accommodating about my concern and clearly cared about my satisfaction. After deciding I wanted to purchase the 2015 STI from Howard, we got to looking at the car I was potentially going to trade in. Of course, you always want a lot for your trade, but in the end, Howard worked with his team to present me with a very fair offer, which I accepted. I'm sure they'll do well on the car and I was able to trade up to something I've wanted for a long time. Throughout the paperwork and financing portion of our time, Howard guided me through the process and kept me informed at each step along the way. Once the car was ready and everything was signed, Howard walked me out to the lot where my car was waiting for me. He made sure I was pleased with the appearance of the car (the detailing team did a great job - shoutout to them!) and got me settled in before waving goodbye. This is my second Subaru, but my first from Bill Kolb, Jr. and Howard Bonfield. While it may be a few years until I am ready for my next Subaru, I'll be calling Howard first - without a doubt. More
