No car guys here Stopped by while looking for a car for daughter as she goes off to college. Unfortunately, Phil was up front on the lot so my typical tealth mode of Stopped by while looking for a car for daughter as she goes off to college. Unfortunately, Phil was up front on the lot so my typical tealth mode of evaluating cars face to face was thwarted. Why is it that car sales people think they have to help someone "look"? So as I peruse the Focus and Fiesta, Phil is blabbering on telling me what my daughter needs. As I asked questions about the cars this Phil asks me if I am Secret Ford Shopper. So then I asked if there was a Focus or Fiesta with a manual transmission. The Phil proceeds to object and says "your daughter does not want that and you taking yourself out of the market". Then I ask him "what do you have with a dual clutch transmission?" He has no clue what that is and after some consternation says "is that the little levers on the steering wheel? That's too expensive for you". Now the reason I stopped by was to look at a manual Focus shown as being in stock. The 1 liter model. I asked Phil three times if had heard of this car and said no. So I said "I guess I'll stick to German cars". Later that same day, I bought a new '17 VW Golf Sportwagon with 4-Motion and a 6-speed manual. She loves the car. Phil never asked what my daughter was driving now, never really asked any questions. But he was sure good a telling me what he thought I needed. Ive resided in the area for 23 years. In that time, I have bought over 8 new cars. I visited Billy Howell on each of the purchases. They always disappoint and I buy elsewhere. More
