Immediately upon purchasing my certified used XC70 in May, 2009 with 16K miles, I brought it back to have the tailgate latch fixed as it was sticking (it requires two hands and several attempts to open). It was ‘repaired’ by Minneapolis location, but immediately returned back to its initial poor function. Living 1 hour away from the dealership where it needed to be fixed, I decided I could live with this minor inconvenience given that this was my ‘dream’ car and I loved it in every other way. I never had it addressed again. 2. In Nov. 2009, I had the entire fuel tank system replaced after the car broke down on the side of I94 on the way back from North Dakota. I had it ‘fixed’ at your dealership in Golden Valley, as this was the nearest dealership. Michael Galvin assured me that the problem was fixed entirely and the car had been driven. Unfortunately, I picked it up the next day and the same thing happened on the way home from the dealership– the car broke down on I35 S from the same issue. At the time, I was 9 months pregnant and particularly unhappy about being stranded twice in one week on the side of the interstate with my relatively new car. While waiting for a tow truck, I called to speak with Mr. Galvin, who was at lunch. I left a message asking for a call back and I never received one (until the next day after the car had been fixed). There was no apology or acknowledgement that this issue should have been fixed the first time. The car ran well until July 2010. 3. Last July 9, 2010, I had my car looked at by the service department in Golden Valley, figuring I’d give this service department another chance! I drive from Faribault, MN which is over 1 hour away. I work full time and have an infant (as I’m sure many clients do)—I needed to be sure I had a loaner or rental vehicle, even if I had to pay for it. When I made the appointment to have the car looked at, I confirmed not once but THREE times via phone that I would be able to use a loaner car, and the woman I spoke to said that as long as I got there before 5pm I could pick up the loaner Thursday. I took a day off work planning around my arrival by 5pm on time to get the loaner car. When I got there, Mr. Galvin said there was no record of my requesting a loaner car and acted as if it was my fault for not requesting one! Fortunately, he found one for me, for which I was greatly appreciative. 4. The car was there to check out a loud noise when making sharp turns, I also asked that they fix the windshield washer fluid system which was leaking immediately after filling. When I dropped of the car and explained it to Mr. Galvin, he indicated that this was likely because I overfilled the washer fluid. I explained that, no, it was a problem with the car, as you can fill the fluid tank and watch it run out immediately from underneath the car. The computer message for low washer fluid is always on, and then there is no spray when we try to use it. He was skeptical that there was even a problem, but said they’d look at it. The next day, Mr. Galvin advised me that the repair had been made on the washer fluid system, but that they could NOT hear a noise with turning. He said that everything had been checked out that could make this noise, and looked fine. I was initially satisfied that at least the washer fluid had been fixed, until I got it home that SAME DAY and saw that the ‘low fluid’ message was on again, and the fluid had all leaked out. The car also continues to make the noise when turning. I have realistic expectations regarding maintenance in that car parts will break, and there will always be things that go wrong—I just expect them to be fixed when I’m told by the dealer that they are fixed. While I realize windshield washer fluid is a relatively minor part of the whole function of my car, I have no confidence in the service department or the repairs that are made if they cannot even fix this correctly. I do not feel safe in the luxury car (still making a noise with turning) that I purchased for its renowned safety specifications. I appreciate that all repairs are made under warranty and I am not charged for them, but this is one should expect from purchasing a 100,000-mile warranty. I love this car and, as I said before, it was my ‘dream’ car; however, we will be trading in my Volvo much earlier than I had planned, and for another brand. While I still own the car, I will have the car serviced elsewhere, and no longer patronize Borton dealerships. I tell everyone who remarks at what a lovely car we drive that we are extremely dissatisfied with Borton dealerships, and we recommend they go elsewhere. Kline volvo, since then, has been FAR superior as far as service; I don't mind driving a bit further. More
Bought my second Volvo there and brought it in for service regularly. There was a fantastic woman named Nicole in customer service who was always helpful and responsive in the first years I owned the service regularly. There was a fantastic woman named Nicole in customer service who was always helpful and responsive in the first years I owned the car. Since she left, the service at the counter has been horrible, except for the same nice woman who takes the money and gives one back the car keys. The only other positive thing is that they wash the car. I have things repaired and had to return the next day. It's always expensive and haven't been confident they were doing right by me. My experiences at the Golden Valley location were unpleasant in the early years I owned the car. After that I went to the Lyndale location. Not sure of name of the least helpful guy--he's been there since I bought the car. He's argumentative and borderline mean, definitely not helpful. The last visit, I scheduled a rental car for 7 am and told them I had an appt at 7:30. When I brought my car in and asked for the rental, for which I would pay, he told me there was no way I could get it until later. I walked out and haven't been back for more than a year. I found a wonderful independent repair shop for my 98 V70. Walked in on January 8 with the idea of looking at a new car--the dealership is convenient to my home. The receptionist had a mouthful of food and just looked at me before I said hello. She said hello and went back to eating. I walked around for about 5 minutes, waiting for someone to step up--usually one is practically accosted at the door at a car dealer. Then I went back and asked for help with a new car. Was told someone would be with me in a minute. I waited 10 minutes before walking out. I'm buying a new XC70 from the other Twin Cities dealer, though it's farther away, they treat their customers much, much better! More
I've been a Volvo owner for over 10 years with three different models. Had great service in the different cities we've lived in. Moving here, I expected the same and was horribly disappointed. Ev different models. Had great service in the different cities we've lived in. Moving here, I expected the same and was horribly disappointed. Everytime I brought my Volvo in for a minor issue, I was quoted over $1500 in repairs (at least three seperate times) and in addition every time I left there, within 24 hours something else was wrong with my car. I have service records showing I was there 4 times within 90 days with over $6000 in repairs. Meanwhile, with all my other Volvo dealers in other cities, I brought my car in for oil changes, tires, regular service, everything and never had a problem. And then all of the sudden I start going to Borton and its like my car is literally falling apart. I do not find them trustworthy, either. Like I said before I had electrical and mirror problems I'd never had before until I started going to them. Items that "popped up" after they had worked on the car. When I brought this up to them, they were extremely rude saying it was impossible to link one problem to their work. Really? Impossible. On top of all that I bought four new tires from them and two were wore down to the treads with in 9 months. But there was no way I was going back there again. My last dealer, where we used to live, treated me like family. Talked me through every repair. Was thorough and helpful. Not Borton, all the people I worked with who wrote up my car were horribly rude and very matter of fact. I even called the service manager, because I thought he might want to know why I was never coming back and he could have cared less. I do not recommend Borton and based on my experience with them, I am seriously considering another car for my next purchase, because the idea of traveling to the other side of MSP to go to Kline for service does not sound appealing. Good luck! More
They put the wrong size part on my car and now they won't mend the problem. They say they are going to call back and never do and their attitude is, quoted from Tim Simonson the manager, "you can't prove it mend the problem. They say they are going to call back and never do and their attitude is, quoted from Tim Simonson the manager, "you can't prove it". I guess customer service is not offered there. I am just thankful a non borton mechanic found the issue and repalced the part before someone got hurt or even killed. If that part failed while I was going 65 mph it could have been deadly. That is the kind of vehicles Borton is putting on the roads. Not only did they put on the wrong size part, that was only the straw that broke the camels back, but the recalled tie rod and to be replaced at 23K miles, hmmmmm I wonder if that was the right tie rod they put on. It makes you wonder. Borton has been the worst dealership I have ever had to work with, they really hurt the volvo name. It is very sad when you purchase a $45k car and the dealer can't back it, and it is considered a luxury vehicle yet there is no luxury here when it is repaired with the wrong parts. I just wish they would return my calls and deal with this so I can sell this car and get a real luxury vehicle More
Beware that if they confirm your appointment time that does not have any correlation with when your car will be worked on...waited 2 hours in the waiting room for them to come get me for completion of ser does not have any correlation with when your car will be worked on...waited 2 hours in the waiting room for them to come get me for completion of service only to be told by the same rude employee who checked me in that my car was 'next in line' and they had no clue how long it would take to complete. If only I would have known, I would have gone somewhere else and not wasted my time. More

We went to buy Volvo S60 at Borton in Minneapolis/Golden Valley dealerships. They have two dealerships one in Minneapolis and Another in Golden Valley. This is the worst experience I ever had in my 15 years Valley dealerships. They have two dealerships one in Minneapolis and Another in Golden Valley. This is the worst experience I ever had in my 15 years of car buying experience. They offered us a price and took deposit and next day increased the price by $900 dollers. After two days later vexed with car shopping we called them and wanted to buy the car for the increased price ( plus $900) they invited us to the dealership and then pretty much told us they never offered that price and asked us to pay $2000 more. On phone they promised us that we have a deal and we can just come by and fill up the paperwork and get the car. This is the sleaziest sales people delaership I have ever been to. I strongly advice my friends not to go here. More
