Thank you for sharing your concerns. We want to clarify that the camera system on our property is in place first and foremost to protect our customers’ vehicles and any personal property inside them, as well as to maintain a safe environment for our employees. The cameras are privately owned by Hoffman and are accessible only to our Risk and Safety Manager. They are used strictly for safety and security purposes, including deterring theft or damage and helping us accurately review any incidents that may occur on site. We take customer privacy very seriously. The system is not used for personal surveillance and operates under strict company policies focused on safety, professionalism, and respect for privacy. This public relations reply is not clarifying in the least. It either shows that Hoffman (Burlington Subaru/Hyundai) is blissfully ignorant, willfully ignorant, or complicit in the use of Flock surveillance systems. 1st, Flock cameras aren't sold to anyone. 2nd, while Hoffman may have the settings adjusted to not share with law enforcement, after the data has loaded to Amazon Web Services (AWS) it is out of Hoffman's control, meaning no knows what Flock is doing with that data. And, if issued a warrant or subpoenaed to view that data, Flock and/or AWS will not fight it in any form. Further, this statement does nothing to ensure the thought that Hoffman has my best privacy interests in mind overall. In fact it makes wonder even more because having your own IT dept overseeing that system makes for just as much worry. There is no way that the data that collects over this system is being stored to Flock's AWS cloud resource, and therefore it is system where Hoffman values the ease of service operation over that of their customer's 4th amendment rights. As I stated before, this is a disqualifying feature for my future business, and I won't ever be returning to this dealership. The only thing that this generic PP statement has clarified is that it shows the contempt Hoffman obviously holds for it's customers rights.
