Went in for a appraisal for our Dodge Durango 2006. When we arrived we were put on a waiting list. They said it would be 10 minutes. It turned out to be 35 minutes. The employee came up to me nicely, introduced himself and started telling me how there procedure worked. We walked outside to my truck. He walked around the car pointed our 3 dings and a few hail spots. He then said you have a lot of damage. I was like? huh? I ignored him.. Thought it is was his way to set me up for whats to come...He did not look inside which is pristine and everything works in excellent condition. We walked back in and started waiting for the second part of the appraisal. While there he tried to scare me to think that a reputable dealer in the DFW was trying to pull a fast one on me, because he gave me a deal on a vehicle. Even though the car had a by back guarantee from the dealer and car fax. Plus a 6 month full warranty. He tried to tell me that they are the only dealer who will tell you anything negative about the car your going to purchase. He even said Carfax is not good. You should make sure you have an Autocheck done on it. He kept going and going on about I would be weary about this dealer. (Note this dealer has a rating of 2 out 10) The dealer I am working with is rated 9 out of 10. For a 2006 Durango, good condition with minor defects, NADA rough trade in. $7150 Kelly blue book $6850 I have done searches for two weeks about what the dealers are selling my vehicle for in the same condition and mileage $99999-$13999 The night before we went to another dealer to get our car appraised they said they would give us $6000 on our trade. So finally... after 15-20 minutes the appraisal came up. The offered me $2000 to sale them my car. I was insulted! DO NOT GO TO CARMAX TO SALE YOUR VEHICLE. They low ball you and try to give you nothing in hopes they can make lots! Sad...I came to the Plano Super Store, thinking they would be honest. I thought they would be close to our rough trade in or beat our last appraisal. WOW....I WAS WRONG. Thanks for wasting my time. More
We love our Chevy Trailblazer SS but we have had a really bad experience with Carmax. It started out great when we purchased the vehicle. When purchasing we added on the MAXcare warranty. Exactly one year bad experience with Carmax. It started out great when we purchased the vehicle. When purchasing we added on the MAXcare warranty. Exactly one year after purchasing our truck we started having issues with the headlights not turning off, the engine knocking, and a buzzing noise coming on at first with the radio and then proceeding to continue with the turn signal and hazard lights being turned on. We took the truck in to Carmax. We were told the headlights were covered under warranty but that their mechanics were slammed so they would need to send our vehicle to Chevy. The next week we receive a call from the service advisor at Carmax letting us know that the problem with the lights was resolved and replaced at Chevy but we needed to bring a new battery to Carmax because our battery wouldn't jump or take a charge anymore we would also need to pay $60 to have the mechanics install the new battery. After making several phone calls and finally getting their corpoarte office and their warranty company finding that they both agreed that the Jacksonville Carmax should have covered the battery "but this is the stoers call" as I was told by both representatives. The manager of Carmax refused to replace the battery even though his mechanics were at fault. Well they state that they have this "Cause and Effect" that is added to the warranty, don't be fooled.......they don't hold to this. Even though they had drained the battery time after time while they had it and then back and forth to Chevy we were ulitimately responsible for replacing something they had broken. For me it's not the cost of the battery it is the principal. On top of everything the mechanic at Carmax tried to tell us that the knocking noise that the engine was making was caused by the battery.......Really?? Really?? The mechanics seem to have a huge lack in knowledge. None the less I would not waste my time buying a car with Carmax there were so many issues when we first bought the car even though they do their 125 point inspection before you buy the car. Then you have to get the run around to get anything taken care of. If you plan on buying their MaxCare warranty don't waste your money it is a 3rd party company that will add one more person you have to track down to get anything repaired and or replaced, it is a waste of money. Carmax lost a sale due to the poor interpersonal skills of a salesman: Ken Sutts. His surly attitude and demeanor made for poor customer service. Since his time was so valuable he made it clear to me m of a salesman: Ken Sutts. His surly attitude and demeanor made for poor customer service. Since his time was so valuable he made it clear to me mine was not. I have bought a number of cars. I can honestly say he was the worst salesman I have ever dealt with. As result, I took my business elsewhere. I will pass on to my family and friends the negative experience with Carmax. Dealer ship is in Woodbridge VA. More
Carmax can't seem to get my car I purchased from them fixed. I purchased a car that was supposed to be free of oil leaks or any issues. It was supposed to have passed the 125 point inspection but was not fixed. I purchased a car that was supposed to be free of oil leaks or any issues. It was supposed to have passed the 125 point inspection but was not up to par. They had my car for over a week and were still ordering parts. No sense of urgency or care from Carmax at all. They sold me a car with issues that they can't even fix. Good Luck if you ever buy from Carmax and the car has issues. Good Luck if you ever go to Carmax in Duarte. Edwin or Ronnie can't do anything to help you and it is hard to get the read hard truth out of them, they just say everything is fine and will be ok. More
Before saying anything bad about the dealership I do want to say three things: 1 - The quality of their cars seem very good 2 - The price is a little bit high, but somewhat reasonable if you have the mon to say three things: 1 - The quality of their cars seem very good 2 - The price is a little bit high, but somewhat reasonable if you have the money and they are non-negotiable. 3 - Their conveyance fees are much lower than other dealers Carmax is really for people who do not want to do their homework. If you just want a car at a reasonable price with a good history, then go to Carmax. If you spend a little more time and use autotrader.com or a similar site I guarantee you will be able to find the same car of equal or better quality at a lower price from a local, reputable dealer. Example: I went to Carmax for a 2006 Ford Escape. On their lot, they had a 2006 Ford Escape XLT with 72k miles selling for $13,600, non-negotiable. This was a low-end model that was not loaded (cloth seats, very plain interior, plain dash). They only offered me about half the price my car was worth for a trade-in and they offered me a terrible 6.45% APR since my credit is over 750. I searched online over the next few days and I found a 2006 Ford Escape Limited (better model with more features). This only had 68k miles and it was selling for $12,850. I test drove it and it had a much smoother ride than the one at Carmax. It was fully loaded (leather seats, factory tinted windows, electronic dash display, etc.) Needless to say, I bought this. This dealer offered me 4.24% APR, which is what I knew I deserved. On customer service: Carmax - I spent 1 hour with the salesman to look at the car and take it for a test drive. When we came back in from the test drive he said that he had another appointment at that time with another couple. I understand that you have appointments, but how could you leave a very promising buyer when the next step is to discuss financing! Very poor customer service. I still went to talk to somebody else about financing, but they didn't know anything about me and they did not treat me like they cared. When I told them I could get a much better rate somewhere else, they didn't even offer to compete with that rate. I was only given the option of buying the car immediately and then they would give me 3 days to find other financing. What incentive is that? The only thing I gain is a rushed feeling of being approved for better financing elsewhere within three days. Why not hold out on buying the car and then I would have all the time in the world to find financing (which is what I did). My biggest problem is that the price was not good enough to be a "no-haggle" sale. Carmax did not work with me at all on financing or on the price and I could not believe that my salesman just walked away right after the test drive. More

Last month I visited CarMax to check out cars for my brother. My family will not choose any other place to purchase a car. There was no pressure, great service and the employees work together like one brother. My family will not choose any other place to purchase a car. There was no pressure, great service and the employees work together like one, big happy family. My daughter especially enjoyed the huge play area. I really hope that when future car buyers are researching dealerships that they save time and find the closest CarMax. What a great experience! The salesperson (Susan) was knowledgeable and very fun to work with. She's been there a number of years and seems to know alot about the company and product she represents. More
ARE YOU SERIOUSLY COMPLAINING ABOUT GETTING SOMETHING FOR FREE??? I am shocked at the few negative comments that I have read. I went to CarMax because they stand by every word. When Susan told me that t FREE??? I am shocked at the few negative comments that I have read. I went to CarMax because they stand by every word. When Susan told me that there is "nothing like new parts on a used vehicle", she was right. CarMax just replaced my front two tires (were making a grinding noise), and put a new blower motor in my AC because the first setting was inoperable. I called Susan to ask a question about the small humming noise coming from the tires or brakes. She referred me to the Service dept who took it from there. What a smooth transition. Tim (service consultant) never told me to "take a hike" like other dealers would have said. He checked out my car and decided that I needed new tires. During his inspection, he noticed that the first setting in the AC was not working, so, CarMax replaced my blower motor. HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY SAY THAT CARMAX IS NOT THERE TO HELP THE CUSTOMER..? EVEN 30 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE. STOP COMPLAINING, PEOPLE!!! ENJOY YOUR CAR AND THE GREAT NAME THAT CARMAX HAS BUILT FOR THEMSELVES. Have a good day! More
I bought a Suzuki Verona from Wichita Carmax in 2006. The car has broken repeatedly since. Dangerous engine revs, stalls at intersections, etc. Repairs take days or weeks. Last repair took 2 months. The car has broken repeatedly since. Dangerous engine revs, stalls at intersections, etc. Repairs take days or weeks. Last repair took 2 months. I am upside down in the car, they refuse to take car back. I failed to check Internet on this car, and found later huge complaints, which Carmax chould have known. Carmax is perfect example of pleasant people selling bad products, and then pleasantly throwing you under the train. More
I can echo the sentiments of other posters. The experience was quick, and virtually stress free. Our sales person was Susan Nachbar, and she was delightful in every way.
