I love the concept… Who doesn’t want to look over an inventory of cars, all the while dodging the shady used car salesman. The prices seemed a touch high, but the quality seemed to be there. WELL … then inventory of cars, all the while dodging the shady used car salesman. The prices seemed a touch high, but the quality seemed to be there. WELL … then they screwed me. I found a car, made an agreement to pick up and buy, had them run my credit (and my wife’s ) got all the paperwork lined up, financing done… I was told I could come pick up in about 4 days, could be up to a week. Well a week a week goes by… turns out they sold the car to someone who walked in AFTER we made an agreement and got financed. They super apologized and admitted they screwed up, but they ran our credit reports and had a few others run reports, to get best offers. Dropped each of our credits 8-10 points, and no car to show for it. I saw a few other reviews stating sane thing, but thought it won’t happen to me. Well… they got me. Now I’m still looking for a car but credit scores are lower and have been told my rate will be higher. Lame. I wanted to believe it CarMax. I was excited to buy without a dealer, and could do so for all the kids getting Lic soon. Nope, back to the dealers looks like. Shady moves for these folks More
Complete bait and switch. I should have read these reviews first. I had an online offer for my car. All information was uploaded. They canceled it the night before, saying I should have read these reviews first. I had an online offer for my car. All information was uploaded. They canceled it the night before, saying there was a difference in the odometer. I entered a number that was slightly higher miles higher than the odometer photo as I was trying to compensate for driving the car to work and to the dealer. I was trying to do the right thing. They voided my offer and refused to give another online offer. They also refused to honor the online offer and stated the "market may have fluctuated" even though my current offer is good for two more days. Everyone passed it off--the business office, customer service. I never got to actually speak to the person who called and canceled my appointment. It's a shame because we have purchased four cars from them in the past, and we will never do so again. More
Complete bait and switch. I called to ask about a price adjustment because my car has a new hybrid battery and warranty. I was told to come in person to have it appraised. I d I called to ask about a price adjustment because my car has a new hybrid battery and warranty. I was told to come in person to have it appraised. I drove 40 minutes in a huge rainstorm...when I arrived, I was told they wouldn't even consider adjusting the price. When I asked why I had been told to come in for an appraisal, the rep literally shrugged. TERRIBLE customer service. More
These people cannot sell you a car for the full amount, if you try to pay by check. I took a corporate check for the full amount of over $40,000.00 and they had no way to accept the check that was already if you try to pay by check. I took a corporate check for the full amount of over $40,000.00 and they had no way to accept the check that was already made out and ready to process. They didn't act interested in helping us, and were a colossal waste of time. Never buying anything here in the future. More
What should have been a fairly simple transaction, selling an 18 year old car of my mothers was not. After supplying them with a title and a power of attorney. They closed the deal, I received payme selling an 18 year old car of my mothers was not. After supplying them with a title and a power of attorney. They closed the deal, I received payment. Over a month later, one of the people, named Vernon, from Carmax in South Portland called me and said he needed the original power of attorney certified with original signature. Where were they on this when we closed. Asking me for ridiculous paperwork the day after Christmas. I said he would have to speak to my attorney and he hung up on me. They need to hire people that are more professional. More
Complaint Description I purchased a red Ford Fusion 2013 on 6/11/2020. On 12/15/2022 my fusion shut down. I called MaxCare my extended warranty company. The customer representative I was on the phone stated on 6/11/2020. On 12/15/2022 my fusion shut down. I called MaxCare my extended warranty company. The customer representative I was on the phone stated Mr.Henry you spent $9,000 in repairs on your vehicle to-date, I have concerns because your cap off is $5,000. Anything after that you will have you pay out of pocket. I explained I purchased an extended warranty up to 125,000 miles and all repairs are coverd till then. He then stated that Maxcare don't exceed repairs more then the car is worth. On 12/16/2022 I arrived at Carmax 10am after having my car towed the day before. I let the new salesmen that I was assigned the reason I was there and I was looking for this matter to be resolve. I explained to him Carmax is selling vehicle warranties under false pretenses. I also explained to him that I called Fidelity Warranty who's MaxCare, will not repair any vehicle if it exceed more then the vehicle is worth. I called Fidelity Warranty for him and his coworker Bonnie (she' sold me the Fusion and the warranty). The customer representative explained to the car salesmen just as it was explained to me the night before. Their were shock to never knew or heard of this before. I stated you learn something new everyday. Now that Carmax is aware of selling warranties under false pretenses, they are not trying to take accountability. They think they can just fix the small things for free and that's it. I only had my car a little over two years. I still have a few years left on my loan. They fail to realize that they sold millions of warranties. I need MaxCare warranty deducted out of my monthly payments, which result in a new loan or finding a vehicle to put me in. More
Bad company, poor service. I did not feel welcome at Carmax. Very bad experience. No call back after looking at my vehicle and priced it well below market value. I did not feel welcome at Carmax. If i could give zero stars that is what they would get! I bought a 2019 Mercedes from them for 37k (40 after taxes). Come to find out that the speedometer has been rolled back and also has an active lien on the car and it cannot be registered. I went in and they pretty much said i was crazy and they have started the registration process. I said you haven’t and can’t be done because of the Lien! They kept disagreeing and giving every excuse in the book and even tried to Tell me that they had mailed the title and it was delivered. It was someone else on the paper and another car. Again treating me Like i was stupid! I told them i did not want their piece anymore(that was having issues already and i had spent 500 on inspection). The check Engine light kept coming on and off amongst other things. They said they would not refund me but i could get a trade offer. They offered 33k and said i could get another car and save the tax money! I found another car and guess what? Another lien! This Place is a joke and a ripoff! Will never do business with them again or their horrible cars they don’t check out. I went straight to another dealership and worked out a “real” car with real warranty. These jokers didn’t even know how to hook my Phone to Bluetooth in the car or the features on it. Was covered in water spots i had to pay ($300) to get off. I will be looking into steps to get my Money back and leave my reviews everywhere. Run far from this place! Bad cars and incompetent staff! More
There we're 6 people at their office standing around not doing much of anything. I had an appointment to pick up the car with somebody named Jim but he wasn't available. They told me the car is at PA inspec doing much of anything. I had an appointment to pick up the car with somebody named Jim but he wasn't available. They told me the car is at PA inspection wasn't ready. I found somebody to help me who seemed to be the "go to guy" and he sped up the inspection. Why the other morons standing around couldn't do that is beyond me. Carfax said the car was in a front fender accident but the body shop didn't align the driver's side low beam. I called the guy that sold me the car. He said you're well within the 90 day warranty. I was in CT at the time. He said go to the Milford CT dealer and they'll take care of it. They did take care of it but with a $80 bill for me. I emailed the guy at CarMax with a picture of the bill for reimbursement. No response. The car had to be shipped from FLA to PA with a non refundable fee. They told me I had 10 minutes to make the payment with my credit card. That should've raised a flag but I paid. The car could've been down the street for all I know. More
Bought 4 cars from them, all of them had major issues, after selling the car they clean their hands and now you are at the mercy of the extended warranty company. I was under the impression that you pay after selling the car they clean their hands and now you are at the mercy of the extended warranty company. I was under the impression that you pay extra couple thousands for a more reliable car and better customer service, I was wrong, I will never buy from them again. More
