Later, I realized they locked me into a $15,000 loan for a $3,000 car, which started falling apart soon after I got it (had to replace brakes, tires, parts of the motor, the interior started coming off the door, etc.). Now I’m stuck in a loan that I can’t renegotiate or refinance, because I’m overpaying so much. They took advantage of my inexperience in exact way that people fear a car retailer will. I regret going there and would never recommend it to another. I’ve had my car reposed because I couldn’t afford my payments (which are almost $400 a month - plus the interest accrued during the pandemic when I was out of work. American Credit Acceptance did not waive anything, they just tacked it on to the interest), and the cost of repairs- it was $4000 to get it back, on the same day. Now I can’t even afford my car registration. This car is ruining my life and I have Car Max to thank for it. More

I was skeptical that they would drop the offer when I brought it in but they just took 16 minutes to check it out and gave me a check. So much easier than dealing with title and everything trying to sell it myself and they have me a really great price. Everyone was nice, efficient, honest. They couldn't told me that several days before my trip which they knew I had planned. Hands down the most unprofessional company to work with. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. More

After about 2 hours on the phone trying to finance a $19000 car I gave up. Odd, since my credit score is 796, my income as a physician is robust. I bought my car in November. There are a few problems with it. This resulted in the car pulling hard to the left but they had me test drive with all the self driving features that prevented me from noticing it until almost too late. I had the Lexus dealer confirm this and went to receive my money back guarantee and they told me I would not receive any of my money for a week to two weeks and I paid the car off cash. This has prevented me from purchasing a new vehicle because I’m out 40k that they will not give me I fussed and fought for 8 hours for them to not work with me on any car prices not even a 1k discount so to my troubles and then telling I basically had to buy a car from them or be stranded and they never budged to aid me at all. I called them out in there inspection and they commented “ a majority of our vehicles are returned because of mechanical problems that’s why you have 30 days”. The tried telling me I had to drive over a 100 miles to turn it in to a different car max despite me being at one in Austin I talked to 8 different reps that all proceeded to put me on an hour long waitlist and offer me the same option of “you’re just going to have to wait to get your money back or buy another car from us” I asked about them shipping a car to me and they promptly said “for a fee” worst car buying experience I have ever had they basically are advertising fraud with the money back guarantee yes you will get it back but they won’t give it to you for weeks another customer was next to me discussing how she has been waiting a Month for her check and they are telling me that it would only take a week. I informed them I was to go to colorado in a few days and they told me to buy a car from them sell it in colorado back to them and get my money back and repeat this to get home… they are withholding my money not writing me a check right away but they own the car I purchased again how does that work? I can’t leave with a car without paying so why is there no double standard? More

The engine has gone out, the transmission, the battery, the alternator. The actuator was even broken when they sold it to me. They claimed to have replaced everything before I bought it. This was a lie. Whenever I try to get in touch with Carmax, they are unavailable. The Carmax warranty is a joke. It doesn't cover half the things it claims to cover, and getting anyone to tow your car takes anywhere from hours to days, leaving you stranded without a car. I wait for hours on hold when I try to call Maxcare just to get someone to tow my car. I have made appointments with Carmax to have my car serviced and had to wait weeks-months for an appointment only to show up at my appointment for them to say that was appointment is at a store 30 minutes away. I couldn't get there on time, so the appointment I had waited a month for was canceled. This company is horrible. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Buyer Beware. More
