Registration Nightmare I used Carvana at the beginning of November to purchase a car prior to a cross country move I had planned (currently live in NJ moving to UT). I adher I used Carvana at the beginning of November to purchase a car prior to a cross country move I had planned (currently live in NJ moving to UT). I adhered to their 45 day timeline and purchased my vehicle 49 days before my move date. The purchase and pickup was seamless. I was in and out of their vending location within 20 minutes which is incredible. I bragged about the purchase to all my friends and coworkers! Then.... it came to registration. Exactly 7 days after picking up the car, my registration status was flipped to "Submitted to DMV". Perfect! On 12/23, after not hearing from them since November, I called to inquire on my registration status. Well, come to find out it was held up due to a missing document. But no fear, I was told that I could go to the DMV to get them to sign the form, overnight the form to Carvana, and my vehicle would still be registered prior to my move. At this point, however, I would be a few days without my car since my temporary tags expire on 12/29 and they are unable to renew them. Oh well, I can live with that. The next morning, on Christmas Eve, I arrive at the local DMV to get the requested form filled out. After waiting for over 3 hours and talking with 2 associates and a supervisor, they refuse to fill out the form - stating there is nothing on it which requires their signature. At this point, I am confident the DMV is wrong (past experiences I suppose), but I call Carvana and inform them of the situation. After about 20 minutes on hold, I'm told that it was Carvana's mistake and that the DMV was correct. Carvana would fill out the form and submit the registration that day. Great, so I wasted my Christmas Eve morning at the DMV, but maybe this nightmare is finally over. On 12/27 I called Carvana again the inquire about the registration status. Keep in mind, my temp tags expire 12/29 and I am moving on 1/3. At this point, I'm told the registration is processing, but that there is little hope of it being completed before my move. The only "advice" I receive is the bring a copy of my purchase agreement during the trip in hopes it deters any cops from giving me a ticket. No additional assistance is offered. As it stands currently, I will begin a 5 day cross-country move on Friday with an expired temporary plate. Here's hoping I don't get too many tickets on the way. More
