I had originally sent out the e-mail that I would soon be in the market for a Toyota, so I had received a ton of responses from various dealerships with 'price quotes.' However, I was not able to move on it More

Chicago Northside Toyota responded

The customer did In fact call the dealership several times before coming in. She spoke spoke with me, the used car director, Sam Mustafa twice. Both phone calls were to inquire that the 2 vehicles were still in stock. While on the phone with the customer, I took the liberty of informing her that the 2008 model that she was inquiring about was a 2wd vehicle, making sure she was aware of it. She then stated that she was no longer interested in the 2008 model because she only wanted a 4wd vehicle. I proceeded to inform her that I had a 2008 4wd limited model which was a recent acquisition that was yet to be posted online, but had more equipment and a higher price tag due to the trim level and extra options, such as leather and moon roof. I told her she could view that vehicle upon her arrival. She agreed that might be a vehicle of interest. The customer then asked if she would qualify for the Ford family discount. I explained to her that if such a discount existed, it would only apply to a new vehicle purchase from a Ford dealer, but I would be happy to discount the internet price of the 2010 a COUPLE HUNDRED dollars. At no time in the conversation did the customer ask about the options on any of the vehicles. The only time optional equipment was discussed was when I volunteered the information. All vehicle options are listed for every customer to review on our website with photos, which never listed the 2010 model as having a moon roof, nor did the customer ask if the vehicle had a moon roof over the phone in any of the conversations with Josh or myself. When the customer arrived she took a look at both vehicles. Without even test driving, she asked how much we would discount the 2010 model. We politely told her $250, as discussed over the phone. She was not happy with that answer, but it is consistant with the answer that I gave her over the phone. I spoke to her briefly and explained that our internet prices are very competitive. The fact that she drove all the way from Wisconsin for our low internet price instead of purchasing from a dealer closer to home is further evidence of the great values that we offer our customers. I offered to allow her to use one of our work stations to verify that no other 2010 Escape 4wd, with similar equipment and mileage, was priced comparably within a 300 mile radius.I offered to absolutely beat the price if she were to find one on line with comparable miles and equipment, if it was priced lower. She did not even make an offer on either of the 2 vehicles, claiming to me that a $250 discount would not be sufficient and she would look elsewhere. I asked her to please keep us in mind if she was unable to locate a 2010 4wd Escape with under 10,000 for under $19,750. Also, both vehicles were 1 owner non-smoker vehicles. We have had several people attempt but unable to smell any smoke in either vehicle, so we still have not figured out how the customer smelled smoke in either one. Perhaps she is confusing it with another vehicle that she had checked out elsewhere. It is a shame that a customer can write bad and untrue comments about a dealership, just because she didn't get the price that she wanted. Some dealers start with high prices, then negotiate back and forth with their customers. We prefer to offer the lower price up front. It provides a more pleasant purchasing experience for any realistic customer. As previously stated, she didn't drive approximately 300 miles because we were the highest price. She made the drive because we offered the BEST VALUE that she could find on the internet. The vehicle was already priced lower than other comparable 4WD Escapes in a 300 mile radius. We are a great place to do business. We were polite to her, and to everyone else that visits our store. Come see for yourself, and you be the judge.
