UPDATE: After 8000 miles the head gaskets went. The dealership I took the car to the first time knew what they were talking about. My independent mechanic dropped the ball and I ended up with a $2500 repair job. Luckily Subaru USA picked up half the bill so I only had to drop around $1200. I know that Classic Mazda East was aware of the repairs that car needed because the car had belonged to the GMs mother who had taken it to the same dealership I had taken it to for the inspection 4 months earlier where they had told the same thing they had told me, that it'd need new head gaskets. Being a good son I'm sure he gave his mom a good trade in on the Subaru figuring he could pawn it off on some sucker. Well, turns out I was that sucker. The 5 stars goes to Mastro Subaru for ID'ing the problem and making me aware of it and Subaru USA for being beyond generous and splitting the repair costs.
