Made a believer out of me! We’ve bought several vehicles here since 2008 and have always had pleasant experience with Josh Lawson, great guy! Anyway, our saga began in April whe We’ve bought several vehicles here since 2008 and have always had pleasant experience with Josh Lawson, great guy! Anyway, our saga began in April when our 2009 began experiencing hard shifts, especially from second to third gears. No lights on so at recommendation of a friend, we had transmission fluid flushed and replaced. No change. About one month later the Friday before Memorial Day a light came on. We brought it to this dealership and gave the code Auto Zone said showed and Travis Fitzpatrick researched and said that it was a shift solenoid code. He printed out a repair plan and said they would start with wiring harness, minimal charge, then the try solenoid replacement if that didn’t fix (moderate expense) then most expensive thing next would be to change computer module for transmission. On the way home the light went off. We brought the car back Saturday and they said they couldn’t get it to repeat but would order the solenoid because it was still hard shifting but if we needed the car it wouldn’t hurt to drive if we needed it. So we picked up and due to holiday on Monday, we knew the part would be delayed. No big deal! Part came in, they fixed, seemed a little slow getting to it but when they returned it, it still had a hard shift. Initially, I was upset because they said it was slight, but to us it was worse. Took it for another opinion, he said they needed to do the computer replacement, but Toyota would have to program it so would be better off to take it back to them. Went in and talked with the service manager, TC, who listened to me whine and complain about how bad I was treated in the past on another vehicle and now they couldn’t fix this one. He patiently listened and offered to take another look with Toyota engineer who was going to be in the area in a few days. He arranged for me to get a courtesy vehicle while they evaluated. The technician who had been working on the car found what he thought was the problem, reset some pins or something and we came and picked up the car again and it did fine on the way home, just had to pay a couple hours labor. Next morning, light came back on and by lunch the hard shift was back. Called TC and he said bring it back. If we have to replace the ECU we will find a way to discount it to help you out since we are stumped on this, as well. While it was there at the dealership this time, waiting on the part to come in, we got a call from dealership saying research at Toyota headquarters found an extended warranty on this issue and it would be replaced at no charge and covered by the warranty. We were glad to not have to spend another $1000 or more. So, in the long run, even though it took us a few tries and several weeks of back and forth, we hung in there together and all was resolved to our satisfaction. Even ol Josh got involved and went to bat for us. I’m hoping this turn around in the service department continues in this direction. I feel more comfortable than I ever have that they will listen and help their customers anyway they can. Thanks to Jenny also, for helping with the courtesy vehicle arrangement. I waited two weeks to post this review to make sure the Corolla didn’t mess up again, but so far, so good. Thanks Cumberland Toyota for fixing our car and also for being patient with me. More
