Sales-Yes, Parts and Service-Absolutely Not! I purchased rear shocks for my car by phone last year. $109 total. They went bad after 14000 miles. Note well that the original front shocks are I purchased rear shocks for my car by phone last year. $109 total. They went bad after 14000 miles. Note well that the original front shocks are still going strong after 103k and the original rear ones didn't go bad until 84k. So 14k makes me go, "Hmmm." I call Parts. The person I speak with says that the shocks are 2k past warranty. However, he notes that the computer shows two kinds that fit my car and "I don't know why we sent you the non-standard ones." But he can't give me a refund until I bring it to Service and they "take a look at it." Then perhaps Parts can warranty the shocks and give me a refund. So I drive an hour to have them looked it. Upon arriving, I'm told that there will be a $260 diagnostic fee (something I wasn't told by Parts), that will be refunded IF they find nothing wrong. Whoa. First, I just had someone from Parts tell me that these are not the standard shocks. Second, common sense says these are the wrong shocks. As noted, 103k and 84k. Shocks are generally one of the more durable parts on a car, and it's not like I'm going over sand dunes in the Mojave Desert. So, in essence, they want me to pay a $260 common sense fee. Third, the car has no suspension issues and it's virtually impossible to wrongly install shocks. Two bolts--one at the top and one at the bottom--done. Given the consistent recalcitrance and obfuscation that Parts and Service threw my way with each interaction, how can I not play the cynic and ask, "What are the odds that they don't find something wrong given that--wait for it--THEIR Service department didn't install the shocks?" Sadly, I can't help but wonder if this is a common practice at Mt. Kisco Lexus: sell you wrong part, have you come in for diagnosis, find a problem, and then sell you the right part along with the necessary repair. Both illegal and unethical, but if you can get away with it, a pretty good racket. All I wanted was a refund or a credit towards the CORRECT shocks. But I'm not going back out there because every round trip subtracts $14-17 from the $109 that I spent. Bottom line: I was sold a good car by a nice salesperson and my interactions with others in Sales have been great. But I will NEVER again order parts from them or take my car to be serviced there, and I will tell everyone I know to do the same. More
