Disappointing financing experience after a long trip Before visiting EchoPark Phoenix–Avondale, I selected a 2025 Nissan Kicks SV and contacted the dealership through live chat. I specifically a trip Before visiting EchoPark Phoenix–Avondale, I selected a 2025 Nissan Kicks SV and contacted the dealership through live chat. I specifically asked whether the online price was accurate and whether there were any hidden charges. I was told that EchoPark was transparent and that the listed price was real, with no hidden costs. Based on that information, I researched the vehicle, scheduled an appointment, and traveled approximately 41 miles by Uber to the dealership. I worked with John, who was polite, professional, and helpful. He explained the vehicle and allowed us to test-drive it. I liked the car and clearly explained my employment situation before submitting the financing application. I had recently started a new job and had a signed offer letter, but I had not yet received my first pay stub. John told me that this should be acceptable because some lenders accept an offer letter as proof of income. We completed the financing forms and received an offer at approximately 13% APR, which I was prepared to accept. However, the payment details also included approximately $4,000 for an extended bumper-to-bumper service contract and around $1,049 for GAP coverage. I asked for these optional products to be removed because the vehicle still had manufacturer warranty coverage and I did not want to increase the loan unnecessarily. After waiting about 10 minutes, another employee, Tony, informed us that the lender required a pay stub and that the offer letter was not sufficient. He explained that the lender’s requirements had not been reviewed correctly at the beginning. The timing was frustrating because I had already disclosed my situation before the credit application and had been told that the offer letter would be acceptable. I cannot say whether the financing decision was connected to my request to remove the optional products, but the experience left me uncomfortable and disappointed. I spent considerable time and money traveling to the dealership based on information that turned out to be incomplete. John was courteous throughout the visit, but EchoPark should verify lender income requirements before encouraging customers to travel long distances and submit financing applications. My advice to other buyers is to get written confirmation before visiting about: Whether an offer letter without a first pay stub will be accepted The complete out-the-door price Whether extended warranties and GAP coverage are optional All lender documentation requirements This could help other customers avoid wasting time and transportation expenses. In my eyes, these should be two different transactions. This seems very shady. I should have received a check from the DMV for overpaying on my old car. Which I usually get with each new car I purchased in the past. I thought I was paying for a brand-new registration for my 2023 Hyundai SEL Electric car, but the DMV said they used my refund to pay for part of my new registration. I feel like the dealership did this to make more profit. The finance person only talked to me for about 2 minutes. They never asked how I wanted the title of my car. I felt like they didn’t go over things well. If you buy a car from Echo Park, really look over your contract and ask a lot of questions. I would buy a car from Carvana or Car Max to avoid the $699 doc fee and $699 paint protection fee. These are just junk fees to make the dealership rich.
