The Ed Martin Automotive group was founded in 1955 by Ed Martin Sr. Ed began life as the first born child of Clarence and Nellie Martin in the Indiana University Coleman hospital in Indianapolis, IN. His entrance into this world shows that his life was destined to be anything but typical.
Ed graduated from Manual High School as a football star and continued his football career at Butler University in Indianapolis. Ed's parents were both attorneys; his mother was the first woman to pass the bar in Allen County, Indiana; his father was a Supreme Court Justice for the State of Indiana. In 1946, in Indianapolis, Ed, at the tender age of sixteen, purchased his first automobile with money he earned from delivering groceries and selling ice in his neighborhood. He sold his first car from his parent's front yard. His parents, being both professional and very proud people did not allow Ed to continue selling cars from their front yard. So, Ed approached the neighborhood "filling" station owner and negotiated a deal to sell his cars from the station. As sales grew, it became apparent he had to open his own used car lot, from which he continued selling and wholesaling used cars. In 1955, Ed Martin purchased his first new car dealership, an Oldsmobile dealership in Shelbyville, Indiana. In 1960, Ed Martin became the youngest Ford Automotive dealer in the entire United States. Over the following years, the Ed Martin Automotive Group has evolved into one of the top privately owned corporations in Indianapolis and top eighty corporations in Indiana.

Car prices are not as advertised on the website. The cars posted as in inventory are not, and the advertised dealer price is apparently as if ALL discounts could be applied, which would be impossibl The cars posted as in inventory are not, and the advertised dealer price is apparently as if ALL discounts could be applied, which would be impossible for one person to qualify for; which felt like a sketchy bait-and-switch. It took 3 hours from our decision to purchase the car to finally meet with finance, which is way too long. We were tired and hungry by the time we met with finance, which also felt like a tactic to rush us through without looking at things and asking questions. I understand understaffing, but if it had been clear it would take so long, we would have made an appointment to return. Employees were kind, but overall customer service and transparency are lacking. More

I just found out at the bank that this dealership charged me almost $5k worth of warranties that were never explained or notified to me. I never authorized such products neither I had knowledge whatsoever. I me almost $5k worth of warranties that were never explained or notified to me. I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND this dealership at all. I need to speak to my Spanish rep ASAP. More

This past summer (July), I purchased a used vehicle and worked with James on the purchase. While the sales process ran smoothly, but unfortunately his follow up on promises written into my purchase contra worked with James on the purchase. While the sales process ran smoothly, but unfortunately his follow up on promises written into my purchase contract have been unfulfilled, ignored, and not taken seriously. I've documented my issues via email and have requested to see the purchase orders for the part(s) with dates of those order request, but that was ignored and I've asked to get connected to the General Manager of the dealership, only to be told that James would get me scheduled for the contractually owed fixed. He responded to my request and promised to get me scheduled the following week.... (It never happened and I'm still waiting...). Do yourself a favor and consider a different salesperson if you end up shopping for a vehicle here. More
