Prior to arriving he had everything ready for my viewing a nice narrowed down selection saving me time. Chris Lanza helped expedite the process and Angel had me out of her finance dept in about 10 minutes or less. Total lack of respect from sales staff My buying experience was less than favorable. Went on-line and checked out their inventory and saw a car I was interested in so I filled out their "Re My buying experience was less than favorable. Went on-line and checked out their inventory and saw a car I was interested in so I filled out their "Request Quote" form. I didn't receive a quote but instead Eric Rosenthal called and said I had to come down in person so they could best match me with the proper car. They need to re-label their form "Request Meeting" to be truthful, besides this is the age of on-line shopping and receiving quotes by electronic means is the norm, particularly for the younger professionals who will be their future customers. So I dealt with two other dealers strictly on-line (House Of Imports and Laguna Niguel) who were very professional and courteous. They provided me with much useful information including pluses and minuses of the vehicle and their available options. They also provided me with very competitive pricing and described the cash rebates MB was currently providing on my desired car, so receiving a substantial discount on this car wasn't a problem. So I was well versed in what was available - unfortunately I only wanted a car with a few specific options which wasn't currently available unless I spend thousands more for options I did not want, but I knew what price I should pay. Then Eric called so I decided to go visit their dealership. Got to Fletcher Jones, met a salesman by the name of Brad but then another customer who might have had an appointment with Brad came in, so I was transferred to Nima. I described the car I wanted, said I was only interested in purchasing so we did an on-line search and could only find a car that had more than I wanted, namely a sunroof. No problems, they could make a deal where I wasn't charged for the sunroof. Test drove the car plus I checked out other cars that had my desired interior finishes. So I clearly stated that "looks like I'm going to have to contemplate what trade-offs in options will work for me". Went back to his office and was asked some questions including my SSN. I said no because there was no need to run my credit unless we had settled on a price which we hadn't done. Nima explained they had the "perfect car" so I should buy. If he had listened to my comments, he would have known that they did not have the perfect car. Then he stopped and said he would be right back. I waited for at least 10 minutes (I almost left during my wait) until he came back with another sales person, I forget his name but he was proud of his Italian heritage. Totally unprofessional to just leave a customer for that length of time plus why was I working with a salesperson who did not have the authority to actually make a deal? So the first thing new sales person/manager decided was that I was foolish to buy and that a pre-paid lease would be the best thing to do. Amazing that he knew nothing of my financial situation and lifestyle desires nor my conversations with my Certified Planner, but I'm sure he was well versed in maximizing FJ's profits. During his number crunching he used full MSRP and mentioned the dealer cost (failed to disclose incentives) and said the interest was only 1% - I glanced at the money factor and multiplied it by 2400 and came up with a substantial higher interest rate. I just said no lease and that I could get a price thousands below his dealer invoice. A little back and forth (he did mention that only FJ gave complimentary car washes - guess the folks at Laguna would be surprised to hear that, even my Acura dealer would wash my car for free if I asked) and I just said give me this price which was in-line with my other quotes. He said no way FJ could do that, so I said "guess we are done here, thank you for your time". So I left and went outside towards my car. He came outside and said I was trying to steal from them and that they needed to make money to pay for their building expenses, like that is my problem. Finally he said what if he could give me my price to come back inside and I politely said no because I was pretty sure that would be a waste of my time. He was either lying now or before so I had no trust in his word. And finally he said some unkind things towards me right in front of the dealership. Once again, totally unprofessional and I'm sure if any potential customers were around hearing and/or seeing this altercation would have reflected poorly on the dealership. More
