Time Consuming, Unprofessional, Deceptive I found a vehicle I was looking for, a 2011 Ford Taurus, in an online ad on Autotrader. The listed price was $11,250. I was preapproved for financing I found a vehicle I was looking for, a 2011 Ford Taurus, in an online ad on Autotrader. The listed price was $11,250. I was preapproved for financing for $17k and I went in to make the deal. My plan was to add a few work related accessories (steel rims, new grille and a push bumper) to the vehicle and walk out spending around $16k. I was supposed to work with the Internet Sales Associate, Ariana, but I never talked to her. She was told I was there, but I guess she was too busy. So I was handed over to Loretta KnoelK. She was new and still trying to learn the job, but she was polite, professional, and courteous. She took me to the vehicle and we did the test drive and everything was perfect. So she started the paperwork. I received the total cost of the sale and it was over $17,800. While was expecting about $700 in dealer fees and the tax, tag and title fees, they added $1,800 for a reconditioning fee, a $1k no trade in fee, and a $1k fee for not financing thru them. Let me be clear, they were going to charge me $1,000 for not trading in a vehicle. That means, I was going to pay them $1,000 for them to just mark no-trade in on the paper. They were going to charge me $1,000 for essentially being a cash customer, as I brought my own financing. And they were going to charge me $1,800 because they reconditioned the car for them to be able to sell it. I went to four other dealers and looked at several vehicles I was less interested in, none of them had those charges on the cost sheet. And none of these fees were noted on the online price under the description or in the fine print. Melvin, a finance specialist, came out to explain the fees to me, comparing them to a Walmart BOGO. He then claimed that the fees were in the fine print, which they were. At this point in time, I had been there several hours and I had a meeting to get to. So i was going to walk. Melvin then said he thought he could get me a better deal on financing, so I filled out the application. I told him unless he could get me lower or they dropped the fees, I was not going to buy. He took my packet and I left. About an hour later, I was contacted by another Finance specialist, Mike, who said he could get me a lower rate, less payments, but my payment would be about $10 more a month. So I told him I would be back the next morning, around 10:30. The next morning, I left for the meeting. In the course of 35 minutes, I was called by the dealership 5 times to see if I was coming. I told them I was every time, but I guess they needed to confirm it every few minutes. I finally get there, and I am expecting this to go pretty quickly because everything was done and I just needed to sign the documents and take the car. Nope, still almost a 3 hour ordeal. After I arrived, Loretta asked if I wanted to sit somewhere. I told her my back was stiff since I just drove an hour to the dealership and I preferred to stand. Then another salesperson pulled her aside and yelled at her because I was standing. So she came over and asked me to sit at someone else's desk. Then my paperwork arrived and the monthly payment was over $100 more than what Mike told me over the phone. As I was going over the paperwork with Loretta, Melvin comes over and yells at her, asking her what she was doing. She was waiting to see if I had any questions with my paperwork. He yelled at her for not filling out a sales jacket, because that was more important than making sure I was happy with the terms. When I told Loretta what was wrong with the paperwork, she got Mike who came out and had it corrected. Melvin came back out, grabbed my paperwork and asked Loretta what happened to my packet from the day before. Except he took it to run the numbers, but it appeared that he was blaming her for losing my packet. I went to the back with Melvin to sign the paperwork, and he realized that he didn't have the copy of my ID from the day before, so he called Loretta in while she was taking a break, to make a copy of the ID for him because he lost it the day before. By now, she was flustered and upset, but she made the copy. She brought it back, but left my ID in the copier. He called her back to go get it. During my two days, they had pulled this poor girl aside to complain or criticize her on making mistakes. Not once did I see anyone mentoring or teaching her anything, just being critical and ordering her around. They focused on what she did wrong and never helped her figure out how to do it right. And they did it in front of customers, which was totally unprofessional. I finally got the keys, and then had to walk around the lot in the rain because they moved the vehicle and no one knew where it was. Once the financing was done, no one seemed to care to assist me anymore. I got the car, but with how the financing was structured, I no longer had the financing to add the accessories to the vehicle which would now have to come out of my pocket. With the exception of Loretta and Mike, the entire experience was completely unprofessional. And later, I called Loretta to inform her that I had the keytracker tag on my keyring, she told me that they fired her after I left. The car is nice, a lot of great features. But for the lack of professionalism, the deception with the online price, the poor service, and walking away with less than I originally wanted, it was a disappointing experience. More
