This was my first time buying a new car (I bought a 201 The title to the review may come off as strange, but it best describes the overall experience. This was my first time buying a new car (I bought a 2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn) and this was also my first time going to a formal dealership as in the past I had bought cars from an auction dealer with no real formal lot. Needless to say I really did not know what to expect. Prior to coming to Fred Martin, I had strictly dealt with Falls Motor City for the months leading up to my purchase and had actually gone to Falls Motor City earlier that morning looking to buy the truck I wanted (they had it only in black, whereas I wanted Flame Red, but I was willing to settle). Unfortunately, we could not come to an agreement on a monthly payment and a proper amount for my trade in. As I walked away, I was assured by the dealer at Falls that no one would beat the price and rate that he was offering. I decided to take my chances anyhow. Knowing that Fred Martin was only 10 minutes away, I decided to go there, because I knew they had a very large selection in Ram trucks. When I showed up, I was with my dad and my wife, and we were promptly greeted and Tim Likens took us in as our salesman. I knew exactly what I wanted, knew they had it, and knew what price and payment rate I wanted it for. While Tim took my trade in to be tested and looked at, he directed us to the truck lot, where we looked at all the different models and colors (including the Flame Red one that I wanted). These guys have a great selection of different trims and colors for the Ram 1500, so I would recommend them as a great Ram Dealership. We quickly saw the one I wanted, sat inside, checked it out, and proceeded inside to do paperwork. This part of the process took awhile (several hours), but talking with friends and having been at Falls as well, this is just a part of the process. The commercials on TV of just walking in and 20 minutes later, leaving with a new car, are just not logistically possible. To keep it simple, Tim worked with us to get to the price we wanted. You have to negotiate cause its a car dealership and these guys have a specific job to do. Tim and the dealership were willing to negotiate and got us a rate that was $13/month less than Falls Motor City for the EXACT SAME TRUCK, despite being told hours earlier it was not possible. Fred Martin also gave me $500 more for my trade in. Then came the paperwork process with the finance guys. We worked with Rob and Mark (can't remember last names). At this point it was past closing time and we were some of the last customers of the day. It is a tiring process for both the shopper and the sales/finance guys,especially at the end of the day, but Rob and Mark worked with us to make the process as easy as possible. Rob even found a clerical error (I would have never noticed - the county we were from was wrong on the paper and when he put the correct one in it saved us around $400), which saved us a lot of future hassle if we would have even ever noticed. This is not something he necessarily had to do, but went out of his way to save us money. The car buying process is time consuming and you have to do your research and crunch your numbers. This is a universal fact for all car dealerships. That being said, Tim (sales), Rob and Mark (financing) made a legitimate effort to make this experience a great one and to make me happy. Most importantly they ended up beating Falls Motor City's monthly rate for the exact same truck and same amount of time (months) by about $18/month when it was all said and done. Something Falls claimed could not be done. I love my truck (and hope that will not change) and I am very happy with my experience with this dealership. Thank you guys! More
