This type of repair, in my opinion, is not normal for a car with only 51,000 miles and has been maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.. This was the second major repair not related to normal wear and tear within the last year. The service representative and service manager were very helpful and proactively brought the issue forward to GM Goodwill. Their effort, on my behalf, was successful and the cost to me was reduced significantly. and greatly appreciated. I do want to mention that based on the last year as my car hit the 50,000 mile mark that the vehicle itself is becoming a concern to me in regards to reliability and frequency of repair from inherent design or factory installed/assembled parts. Three other members of my immediate family own vehicles from other manufacturers and have similar or in one case more than twice the mileage than my vehicle. Yet, despite their vehicles being older and/or higher mileage, their mechanical repairs have only been associated with normal wear and tear. More

I’m a very young, short, white woman who works at a tire company as a web developer. My 2015 Chevrolet Sonic LT needed the tires replaced, so I bought tires through my company and scheduled an appointment to have them installed at a local dealership this past Tuesday (mistake number 1). Tuesday afternoon came and I loaded my tires into my tiny car and drove over to the dealership I’m . The service advisor, Holly, informed me that the total would be $139.80 ($35.95 p tire) for installation labor and disposal. Red flags popped up in my head, because this definitely seemed on the higher end of the price spectrum for mount and balance. I should’ve just turned around and walked out, but I didn’t (mistake number 2). Two hours later, the tires are on and Holly walks me to the register to pay. Much to my surprise, the disposal fee wasn’t included. It came out to $166.08 after tax! Frustrated, I paid and walked out. Later that night I was messaging some of my coworkers, and they all agreed that I was way overcharged. My coworker, let’s call her Prince, tells me a story about how she had went through price discrimination for an auto repair in the past, and how this situation reminds her of that experience. She convinced another one of our coworkers with a deep, manly voice who knows everything there is to know about tires, to call the dealership and request a quote. He called the dealership at 3:15pm today and spoke to a service advisor named Dave. He told Dave that he had tires that needed to be installed on his 2015 Chevy Sonic LT. He was very clear that he had already purchased the four tires elsewhere and was just requesting a quote for mount and balance plus disposal. Dave quoted him $83.10 TOTAL ($17.95 p tire for installation plus $3.00 p tire for disposal). Prince called the dealership and spoke to Dave who was very confused as to why I was charged so much. He transferred her to Holly who told her that she needed to look into it and that she would call her back. 15 minutes later, she calls back and claims that I was charged 100% more because I didn’t purchase the tires there. Yet my coworker specifically said in his request for a quote that he already had the tires and just needed them installed. Whatever, she keeps playing stupid and refuses to transfer me back to Dave so Prince hung up. First of all, why would I be charged double for service just because I already had the equipment? That doesn’t make sense and is horrible business. Holly refused to address this. Second of all, why was a man quoted a much lower price than me for the same exact service? Holly called this irrelevant. My conclusion: Either Dave was giving incorrect quotes or this is a classic case of price discrimination. I feel taken advantage of and incredibly upset. Lesson learned. Avoid this place like the plague if you aren’t a white, manly man. Otherwise you’ll get charged 100% more for the EXACT same services. More
