I brought my car in for a service recall and wanted to have some other issues looked at also. The car is still fairly new and was within the warranty period. When I first purchased the car, one of the cli have some other issues looked at also. The car is still fairly new and was within the warranty period. When I first purchased the car, one of the climate control knobs has been stiff and the driver side mirror has made a loud clicking noise from time to time whenever I'm going over bumpier roads. Both of these issues were present when the car was purchased. I had tried to have these looked at previously, but when I had asked service groups to look at this while getting an oil change, they mentioned that the group that looks at these types of issues is different and would take an additional 3 hours to review. Instead, I said I would have it looked it when I did the service recall. When I brought the car in this time, the service coordinator stated that the cost just to look at the issue was $190 per issue and IF it was deemed to not be within warranty, then I would be responsible for the repair. If I chose not to proceed with the repair, then I would still be responsible for the $380 just to have the issues looked at. When I asked if I could get a qualification of whether or not the issues at hand would be covered under warranty, the service coordinator said he was not in a position to say. This meant I was risking sending my car in to get reviewed, and potentially be on the hook for $380 if a service personnel subjectively states that the issue is not covered under warranty. Every other service department I've gone to with other car manufacturers, if a car is within warranty and the issue is minor like these two, has always been willing to look at the problems and been willing to correct manufacturer's issues without forewarning of a high inspection charge.
