Yesterday my wife and I stopped in to test drive a Rav4. Of course my wife liked the hybrid most expensive model and that's the one that she wanted to test drive. We went to this location after Rav4. We went to this location after finding them on a Facebook ad that promised 72 months no financing, $4000 over blue book, and a lot of other special incentives. When we got there on May 4th during the corona virus quarantine we noticed that nobody at all on this entire car lot was wearing any protective gear, nor did they have any sprays or sanitizing items out for people to use. When we sat down with the salesperson Jim he didn't seem to know anything about our 6:45 p.m. appointment that we set up online nor did he know about any special deals or incentives through their Facebook advertising. I explained to him that we wanted to test drive a couple of their vehicles and he began interrogating me on my down payment am i trading in my Jeep which I told him no because I'm in love with it credit scores etc. Which is regular car dealership things that you have to go through. So I gave him pretty much no information because I just wanted to test drive a car and see if my wife would fall in love with. Then he got up to go get our vehicle and sent his manager and who basically ran through all of the same questions and we told him that we pretty much didn't wanna go through this whole thing without test driving a vehicle to see if we even wanted to buy it. Definately not letting anyone run my credit score before I test drive. Then while we are waiting for them to pull a vehicle around for us to test drive the manager came over and asked me for the keys to my vehicle so that they could go ahead and inspect it to see what its trade in value was even though I had told them a couple of times that I wasn't really interested in trading it in. A couple minutes later I noticed the sales guy was back talking to my wife while I was looking at trucks so I strolled over and into the most awkward conversation I've ever been involved in. Apparently my trade in, that I wasnt interested and had told the manager and salesperson I didnt want to trade in, wasn't worth anything at all and we should just go ahead and pull my credit score to see what I qualified to buy. This is like the 4th time now that they wanted to get my information pull my credit score rather than letting me test drive a vehicle. That I might not even want to buy after test driving it. So at this point I asked my wife if you still wanted to test drive a vehicle and she was feeling kind of weird about the whole situation because of the high pressure sales tactics and we decided to walk on out of there. But here's the thing, while I'm not wealthy, I own a couple of businesses with my wife and every single time she has asked me to take her to test drive a vehicle we've walked off of one of those lots with a vehicle within the next 1 to 2 days. I'm not rich but I've been saving up pretty much my whole life and I could buy any one of those vehicles cash. I called yesterday and asked for the sales manager Ryan to give me a call back. It's 11:00 a.m. the next day and I haven't received a call back so I can let him know about the scummy sales tactics his guys are using I guess when hes not there or whatever. So I figured I'd start reviewing them online because it's bad form to try to pressure someone into letting you ding their credit when they haven't even test driven one of you vehicles to see if they want to take it home with them. It's also bad form to judge someone on their appearances because I'd been in my yard planting roses for my wife all day and guess I looked like some poor dirty person that they just wanted to Broom off their lot. I'm not sure if that was their intent but that certainly was the feeling that my wife and I who buy a new vehicle every 1 to 4years got from the sales guy and the manager. Again, I've been buying new cars since I got of high school in the nineties and have never had a car lot act like they didn't want to do business with me. The last car I bought which was a 2018 Jeep Renegade I was there for a long time while they were working the numbers and told them that I was diabetic and had to go get something to eat the sales guy ran down the street and bought me a steak, mexican street corn, and an amazing mexican baked potato to keep me in the deal and get their vehicle in my hands. This car lots sales guys and managers seem to need a bit of sales CPR or maybe an adrenaline shot to get them into the proper sales mood to deal with customers.
