We went to the dealer service center because, after all, the Altima is a Nissan. The car needed a power steering pump. Eight days later, the service manager finally called to say it was ready. The charged the Altima is a Nissan. The car needed a power steering pump. Eight days later, the service manager finally called to say it was ready. The charged us $950 for three hoses--no power steering pump. We did not even leave the parking lot--not repaired. How did a technician miss what we already knew? It still needed a power steering pump. They admitted getting it wrong, but did not offer to refund any money, but we left it with them. After dealing with an extended warranty company, they finally installed the pump and said the car was ready again. And, they wanted another $650 for things they did that we did not ask for or authorized--items they would not explain. There was nothing else wrong with the car. All we wanted/needed was a power steering pump so we could use the car again. They service writer was unsympathetic. The next morning, after driving the car to work, the car was hemorrhaging antifreeze. We added water to get the car back to them asking that they fix the problem they caused. The service writer (Nate) responded with: "We don't do anything for free." That afternoon, they called and said it needed a new radiator and that would be $1250. When we carried the car in, it had no leaks of any sort. The service writer would not consider that they should fix what they caused. At this point, the car is undrivable after several weeks with them. We had it towed to another mechanic. He replaced the radiator for less than half what they wanted to charge us. The old radiator he removed had a dent in one corner. They damaged it--no other possible explanation. All in all, we ended up paying out almost $2000 needlessly. The power steering pump was covered by the warranty. We should not have incurred those kind of expenses especially when we did not make the mistakes/errors. Apparently, even if they break it or make a mistake, we pay for it. A good person accepts responsibility for their mistakes. We can only surmise they are not good people. More
