We had a negative car-buying experience at Hendrick Toyota that left us disappointed. Because I was well cared for at my last dealership (Johnson Hyundai where I had purchased and serviced my car for t Toyota that left us disappointed. Because I was well cared for at my last dealership (Johnson Hyundai where I had purchased and serviced my car for the past 11 years of ownership), I was apparently naïve and too trusting when shopping for our next new vehicle. I anticipated feeling equally well-cared for as a customer at Hendrick; however, the stressful sales experience left both my spouse and me feeling let down and manipulated. We worked with salesperson Ashley Kurtzman, who said she has been with Hendrick Toyota for 10 years. We went to Hendrick on two different days during their year-end Toyotathon to consider potential choices. Ashley was friendly, patient, and helpful during the initial test drives and she provided good information on the vehicle features. We negotiated a price for a RAV4 Hybrid and then went home to sleep on it. We returned again after the holiday closures and test drove a Plug-in Hybrid we wanted to consider. After some deliberation we decided to stick with the first car, but it had been sold; however, Ashley said another one like it had just arrived on the lot. When we went to seal the deal, we asked about whether the newly arrived RAV4 Hybrid was the same price as the first one we’d picked out. Ashley left to check on price and when she returned, she informed us that Hendrick could do the same deal we had made on the first car, but failed to mention that the sticker price for the one they had sold was higher due to the specialty paint color, information that was relevant to price negotiations. When we got home and checked the prior paperwork, we realized that she had not been forthcoming about the price difference. This made it seem as if the sales team had been cagey, and we felt intentionally deceived -- not a reassuring start to the congenial dealer relationship we’d hoped to have. More
