Bad Sales Tactics ~~ Hyundai of Orange Park I visited Hyundai of Orange Park (OP) on 2/18/17. Prior to our visit we contacted a salesman and discussed our needs and desires for the visit. We exp I visited Hyundai of Orange Park (OP) on 2/18/17. Prior to our visit we contacted a salesman and discussed our needs and desires for the visit. We expressed concerns with “high pressure” sales tactics common at some dealers. We further explained that our desire was not to enter into lengthy, frustrating discussions with his “sales manager” over price “dickering”. We explained we were serious, highly qualified buyers with no trade-in. He explained that he understood and would work to see that our experience at the dealership was positive. We arrived at the dealership at our scheduled time and were helped by a different salesman since she salesman with an appointment with us was tied up with another person. Our new salesman explained he had reviewed our file and understood our needs and desires. We drove the Veloster. The dealership prepared a price offer. Understand that we were looking at a 2016 car that was new but now a last year model and is effectively a one year old car. Hyundai was offering about $4500 in cash rebates for the car for this reason. The dealership submitted us an offer above MSRP in the amount of $30,681 (selling price). Note that MSRP was exactly $28,005 (from sticker, avail upon request) plus approx $1300 in dealer add on’s like pin stripe, wheel locks, etc. $28,005 plus $1300=$29,050 Total MSRP. These facts raise a multitude of questions: How did the dealer get to a selling price of $30,681 above the Sticker? Why would a dealer make such a ridiculous offer to us after our clear delineation of the facts above? I am a businessman that understands the need to pre-screen potential clients and the importance of profit in a company. I also understand that companies must be reasonable the treat customers with a reasonable standard of professionalism. This interaction was unprofessional to be gentle to the company. Imagine what a car buyer would think, feel and do had they not known and accepted the offer only to find out how poorly they were handled and how bad they were “screwed over” later? Is this the way a professional car company dealer should act? No. After receipt of the paper offer (scan copy available upon request), we decided to leave the dealer and not engage in any discussions with such a disrespectful company. Note that on 2/19/17 (the next day) I was contacted by a Sales Manager of Hyundai of OP and I explained all of the facts associated with my visit to their dealership and she said she would review the file and get back with me. I’ve yet to receive a return call or response from the dealership. After this exchange, we contacted Key Hyundai (a local competitor to Hyundai of OP) and after some phone calls and texts got an offer (1st offer) and bought the same exact car (in red in lieu of white) for $26,090 (selling price). As a direct comparison I’ll note that the total (out-the-door, including tax, title, license, ect) price of Hyundai of OP would have been $29,032.55 and our actual total price at Key Hyundai was $23,956.74. A difference of $5,075.81 (that’s 21% more than our actual price!) This interaction makes any reasonable customer and any reasonable car sales professional question the tactic and approach of Hyundai of OP. Did Hyundai of OP break the law…I don’t know. Was this sales behavior reasonable? No. Would any car buyer ever subject themselves to this type sales tact if they knew it before hand? Doubtful and why I’m posting the information here. I’ve never been handled in such a deplorable manner and I cannot imagine Hyundai USA would approve! More

The car started having brake issues less than 10 days after the purchase and then I found out that there is a safety recall that came out after I purchased the car???? I am not happy that happened. That is really unacceptable that Hyundai would install substandard parts on a brand new car. More
