I went in for a deal on a used 2021 RAV4 with 37,000 miles, transparency in the numbers presentation process was notably lacking. Instead of thoroughly explaining the figures, they handed me the paper and just asked for my decision. Negotiating through unnecessary add-ons like the resistall cleaning program and nitro fill in the tires, I reached a reasonable price and secured financing with a substantial down payment. However, my joy was short-lived. Two weeks later on Christmas Eve, the car experienced acceleration issues, resulting in a complete malfunction with various warning lights, including the check engine light. This unexpected breakdown disrupted my holiday plans. Post-Christmas, bringing the car to the service center revealed transmission issues. (surprising given the low mileage) I was even more surprised to see that they almost didn't give me a rental, but all of a sudden found one after I pressed the matter of needing to have a vehicle. After a few days, I decided it's best to get a new car because the current one is proving unreliable just weeks after signing the deal. I sought resolution in a new 2024 RAV on December 30, 2023. Approaching Fausto, the general sales manager, after being unable to meet the general manager, Mark Giovanni, I explained the issues with the 2021 car. Expressing my interest in trading it due to reliability concerns, Fausto presented two trade-in deals, emphasizing they aimed to "make things right." During the deal review, multiple attempts to explain the numbers involved several people, causing confusion. Eventually, Fausto clarified that I was getting a "full refund", but my down payment was still no where to be found. Despite involving Mark Giovanni, his disinterest and use of car dealership jargon with no care to translate added frustration. After 3 to 4 hours of back-and-forth, I SIGNED the deal for the new RAV that was not on the lot. This meant I would need to wait for the car to come in. In the meantime they started the process on the deal by taking a copy of my license and I gave them consent to pull my credit again (since it was LESS than 30 days). Expecting the car on January 15, 2024, on January 10, the service center informed me the 2021 car was ready for pickup. Contacting the sales department, I was told the new car, due on the 15th, was on the truck and available for pickup on January 12. Curiosity led me to inquire about my credentials and the APR over the phone, but the salesperson couldn't provide clear details, directing me to Fausto. When he called back, he mentioned Toyota removed rebates in the new year, altering the deal numbers. I just stated that I would see what all of that was when I came in. Visiting the dealership on Friday, I discovered they were preparing new paperwork for a different deal. Fausto explained the removal of Toyota's rebates, frustratingly deviating from the initially SIGNED deal from 12/30 with my signature AND management approval. Despite three weeks without a car due to the faulty 2021 RAV4, negotiations resumed, with Fausto offering a $500 deduction. Frustrated by the deviation from the originally SIGNED deal, I returned their loaner car and kept my 2021 RAV4. In conclusion, I am disappointed and completely frustrated with the dealership for selling me a faulty car. Even if it was claimed to be a "rare occurrence" I just wanted get another car that was more reliable and thought I would have had that in the NEW deal that I SIGNED and it was "approved" with a signature from management. What's the point of signing anything if you can just automatically decide to change it at any point? Is that even legal? Regardless of the change in Toyota's rebate program in the new year I signed the papers before the new year even started on the 30th. Choose a dealer that values your time, money, and signature More
