Since 1952, J.H. Barkau & Sons has served the Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin stateline area for their automotive needs. We can proudly boast to over 70,000 customers in those years and have had thousands of customers purchase multiple vehicles and generations of families that have allowed us to serve them.
When John H. Barkau founded the business, his goal was to bring quality, affordable transportation to the local area. Jim (2nd generation), Rick (3rd generation), and Willie (3rd generation) Barkau have continued in that tradition while expanding our marketplace to be worldwide. We have had vehicles shipped to Russia, Sweden, Australia, Turkey, Mexico and many other locations. We have vehicles purchased by customers in 49 states and commonly have customers fly in to pick up their new vehicles. In all of this, it has been a pleasure for the Barkau family to help fulfill the transportation needs of a varied clientele.
J.H. Barkau & Sons has accomplished this feat by continuing to offer quality, hand-picked vehicles at very competitive prices. We believe in offering our customers an incredible selection that is second to none, with over 1100 vehicles available for purchase. We believe in a no pressure sales environment and in quality reconditioning of our inventory selection. Our sales teams at our Cedarville and Freeport stores each have over a century of experience in helping fill the needs of our vast customer base. The funny part is, we remember a lot of you years later and we are genuinely happy to see you.
But selling cars is not all that we do. We believe in supporting the local community through donations, Toy Drives, Food Drives and many other local charities and fundraisers. We also run the “Excellerate” program for Aquin Catholic Schools and have facilitated over 113 donated vehicles. Great Salesman to Work With I bought a vehicle from Jim Mullarkey last week. Jim was friendly, competent, and great to work with. Now that I've had the vehicle for a short time I bought a vehicle from Jim Mullarkey last week. Jim was friendly, competent, and great to work with. Now that I've had the vehicle for a short time, I've noticed that 2 interior bulbs are burned out, as well as 1 brake light bulb. Plus, the rear window wiper on the minivan is not working properly (it misses the window) and will have to be fixed. That seems a little penny wise and pound foolish from your service department. Other than those matters, I'm very satisfied. More

Very satisfied first time customer I helped my son get into a used Honda CR-V this weekend. I didn't think I would be able to co-sign for the loan but the dealer helped me to understan I helped my son get into a used Honda CR-V this weekend. I didn't think I would be able to co-sign for the loan but the dealer helped me to understand that I actually have a great credit rating, despite a bankruptcy in my history. The dealer also made good on an honest mistake when he misquoted the price as $700 less than listed. I was also impressed with how quick they cleaned up the car and got it ready for us to pick up. I was so pleased with the service that I intend to shop for my wife's next vehicle with Nils Sandstrom at Barkau. More

Buying from a trusted salesman and dealer I have been dealing with Barkau And Sons Cedarville for over 10 years and Jim Mullarkey has always been our salesman. Jim M has always been very cour I have been dealing with Barkau And Sons Cedarville for over 10 years and Jim Mullarkey has always been our salesman. Jim M has always been very courteous and friendly and never high powered. He knows I know what I want and he doesn't try to disuede me. I can remember the first Barkau lot in the early 1960s, with the string of lite bulbs across and old gas station building . They were friendly then and are continuing the same service today, even with their growing facilities. There is a reason they have been named the Best Used Car dealership.
