As someone who has years interviewing people about consumer-related issues, I never expected to be writing a review like this myself. We had a very troubling experience at Jenkins Kia in Ocala. My wif consumer-related issues, I never expected to be writing a review like this myself. We had a very troubling experience at Jenkins Kia in Ocala. My wife and I were already on our way to Orlando to complete the purchase of a 2026 Kia Carnival SX Prestige that we had bought from another dealer for $49,500 out the door. We only needed my wife’s signature and to deliver payment. On the way, I received a text that the new 2027 Kia Tellurides had just arrived at Jenkins Kia. Since I had been interested in the Telluride so we decided to stop briefly just to sit in one in the showroom and confirm that we were making the right decision with the Carnival. Personally I did not like how tight the steering wheel column felt for me between my legs. That confirmed for us that we should continue with the Carnival we had already purchased. At that point, the salesperson told us that they could put us into a brand new one instead. As we began looking at vehicles on the lot, he repeatedly said, “Don’t worry about the numbers right now, let’s just see if we have something that you like.”Before any final numbers were presented, he handed us a form that he had already filled out about his own performance, rating himself highly. He asked us to sign that we agreed he had done a great job, even though we hadn’t even reached a deal or seen final pricing. After looking at what they had on the lot, we were very clear and upfront that $55,500 out the door was our absolute maximum. Both of us stated this multiple times. The salesperson circled “55.500” on a worksheet to acknowledge this. A manager then told us that if we financed, they could meet $55,500 out the door and that we could pay the loan off in 30 days with no interest or penalty. We shook hands on that understanding. In the finance office, we were told that we would have to keep the loan for six months and could not pay it off in 30 days. I want to be clear that the finance representative was professional and seemed to be doing her best to explain what she understood the policy to be. After all paperwork was signed, we finally saw the true final amount: approximately $63,000 out the door, more than $7,000 above what we had repeatedly agreed to. We immediately refused the deal and asked to cancel. Despite this, management continued to pressure us to proceed. When we got into our car to leave and began backing out of our parking space so we could then drive forward toward the exit, a new vehicle pulled into a position directly behind and to the right of us, such that I was unable to back out of the space without risking hitting its front end. I waited, assuming the vehicle would move so we could leave. The same salesperson was sitting behind the wheel. When he got out of the car, I then realized this was the same vehicle we had just declined. He said, “Your new car is ready, isn’t it beautiful? It’s been detailed and cleaned up,” even though we had clearly refused the deal and asked to cancel. We again stated that the sale had been refused. At that point, he said, “This is a $70,000 vehicle, you can’t expect to get it out the door for $55,500.”We then left the dealership. Shortly after we received a follow-up phone call from a representative of the dealership asking how our visit had gone. During that call, we were told something different again, that the loan actually only required 30 days and that no interest would be charged. At that point, after being given multiple conflicting versions of both the price and the financing terms, we simply did not know what was true anymore. Our takeaway from this experience was that we no longer trusted anyone involved in this process. We spent over four hours in this process and ultimately walked away and completed our original purchase elsewhere. I strongly recommend that future buyers insist on a printed, manager-signed out-the-door price before entering finance. More
All of the staff I have encountered during my last two automotive purchases, over six years, have been friendly and straightforward. On this occasion, I was having a Homelink mirror installed in my week-old Seltos. It was part of my original purchase agreement, so there was no "cost of service." The service staff is very professional and works cleanly and efficiently. The installation went without a hitch. I have every confidence that my vehicle will receive excellent care at this dealership by highly trained mechanics. Their beverage machine makes excellent Hot Vanilla Chocolate, which makes the wait more pleasant. More
