15,000 mile service; and a scene out of Miracle on 34th St. Part-I — Total Satisfaction: I pulled into the service bay for my appt. NO waiting. Not even 20 seconds. Chuck Varner approached me immediately upon Part-I — Total Satisfaction: I pulled into the service bay for my appt. NO waiting. Not even 20 seconds. Chuck Varner approached me immediately upon arrival to clarify the purpose of the visit. Jarrell Powell, service advisor, could not have been more helpful. He knew of my appt and the purpose of the visit, but was more than accommodating as I added another item or two. He confirmed the plan, explained the process, gave an accurate time estimate, asked if I would need a loaner vehicle. . . courteous/friendly (but not in a fake way or reciting lines from training class), competent/knowledgeable, explained the difference between "recall work" and "warranty work". . .all good. Previously, even though I got full synthetic oil, the sticker on the windshield says next oil change due in 3000 miles, rather than 7000 or whatever it's supposed to be. I asked about that last time and was told "that's just how the computer spits it out. We'll cross it out if you like." This time, I asked about it and it was done right the first time. A pleasant, spacious, comfortable "waiting area" was available, with a batch of FRESH doughnuts available behind plexiglass. You guys are on to something. Special Commendation: I had a lot done—actually on 2 of our Kia vehicles that day. I quite a bit of business with the dealership. But one item struck me as unduly expensive (rear window wiper arm parts + labor). I asked my advisor if it might be the kind of thing I could do myself with a part from a local auto-parts store. To my surprise, rather than giving the standard party line that "the company" might insist upon, he told me the TRUTH—that it would probably be very simple. . .sort of like the Santa guy on Miracle on 34th St. explaining to the customer that the competition down the block has the same item for less. While the business lost one tiny little sale, he gained the TOTAL loyalty and appreciation of THIS customer forever, by giving me an answer that revealed his true concern for me, the customer. The whole experience kicked xxx. Totally different from the way things went only months ago at the old location. Part-II — Opportunities for Improvement: I started this on the Kia Website. Took advantage of the opportunity for a "live chat." A window appeared that explained that I was chatting with "Debra Jones," complete with a photo of the alleged chat assistant. There was nothing "live" about it. The delay between chat-lines was so long I felt abandoned/ignored. The responses were canned ("I have to call the service dept to see if they have the parts" (before we had even discussed the nature of the service work!). The outcome was screwed up (I first received a call from the sales dept, not service; was told my appt would be with Callie Zimmerman (which it wasn't). It was inept. What's worse is the lie that I was chatting with any attractive caucasian named Debra Jones. You might as well say it was John Doe. It seemed flagrantly dishonest and causes me to question my trust in Kia. I also grow weary of the technique in which I'm told I'm being given an unsolicited discount. It happens almost every time, so I can tell it is a policy / strategy. "Earlier, I quoted you $69.95 for this, but we're giving it to you for $59 instead." It might be something the workers do to earn more stars, or it might come down from corporate headquarters, but it is quite disingenuous, and seems to represent gratuitous solicitation of a high star ranking. I had a GREAT experience with the local folks, but do have concerns about corporate Kia. That is a complete reversal of how I felt when I bought my Niro less than a year ago. More

While checking my vehicle over after I got home, I found the overall service to be more of a 2-3 rating. I called and talked to Mr Gansky about my concerns, and was satisfied with the results of our conversation. I don't know if I will be bringing my vehicle back for service though. More
