Sales Tactic Waterboarding I don't normally complete surveys, or leave negative reviews, but I have purchased many vehicles in my lifetime and this scenario was so frustrating I feel I should share my e surveys, or leave negative reviews, but I have purchased many vehicles in my lifetime and this scenario was so frustrating I feel I should share my experience. I was interested in a specific model of Rogue that was not on the lot, but they were able to locate one for me. I worked with Luis the sales rep, who was very helpful in showing me different options on different vehicles. I expressed interest in the upgraded Rogue model on the showroom floor and began considering that model as a purchase option. I also expressed what I wanted my monthly payments to be. I gave my car keys to get an appraisal value on my current car for a trade, and signed the forms giving consent to pull my credit information. Shortly after, the model car was removed from the showroom floor and taken to be detailed. I was led into the finance office and was presented with papers to begin signing for a purchase - before I was even presented with a price! After signing several documents, I said I was not comfortable signing more papers before I knew what my payments would be. The finance manger said "We'll get to that shortly". The payments turned out to be approximately $350.00 more per month than what I requested. (Maybe they saw an excellent credit score and decided to seal the deal for me?) They had my keys to my car for trade appraisal, in so I couldn't even just leave. They even transferred my plates to the new vehicle before I negotiated a price! When I expressed my dissatisfaction they were suddenly able to "work with me" to adjust pricing and get me "closer"' to where I needed to be. In typical used-car-salesman tactics, they wasted my time with a giant game of number manipulation; adjusting some fees down, adding more value to my trade, requiring more to a down payment, and pushing finance timelines out. The final numbers were still way over the range I was looking for. I finally had to call off the discussion and told them we needed to press pause until the next day. The next day, I actually went to a different dealership, and was able to get an equivalent fully-loaded vehicle which was nearly the same price, but fit my budget because they got me close to what I requested for monthly payments - all in less than one hour. I legitimately just went there to test drive a car, and wound up driving off with a new one . I think Jenkins is a pretty high-volume dealer, and if they shuffle people into a room and get them to sign on the dotted line first and negotiate later, maybe that's why. Maybe my experience is not indicative of a typical transaction at Jenkins, but my advice is to shop around equivalent priced vehicles from other dealerships first and save the visit to Jenkins for your last stop.
