As was discussed with the Service Director, the parts that we use at the dealership are GM products that also come with a warranty, which is not the case with the part that you purchased (and that it didn't include the cost of labor). This is the cause of the difference in price. We also wanted to point out that while this repair was not covered under the factory warranty, it was covered under your extended warranty after a $100 deductible. The warranty also did not cover your rental vehicle. These are not determinations that are under the discretion of the dealership, but are dependent on the policies you chose to purchase. We truly did try to help you. We wish you safe travels.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Matt. We're very sorry to hear that you feel this way and we would like to clarify some things about the process of your visit with us. We do apologize that the service advisor did not make sure that you understood what was happening and why. Service Bulletins posted by GM to let dealerships know of potential fixes to potential problems, they are very different from Recalls or Special Coverages. Recalls and Service Coverages are VIN specific. They are not, for example, applicable to all 2010 Chevrolet Equinox's. Depending on what you brought in, we're not sure of the specific reason the paperwork was not applicable, but at the end of the day, it was not the cause of your vehicle's problem. We're glad you had already had the thermostat replaced. Unfortunately, you chose to get this performed at a non-GM shop, which means that we did not have record of this being replaced, we don't know what brand it is, if it is working properly or if it is under any kind of warranty. This is why we did not know it had been replaced. Additionally, in order to take out the thermostat and test it individually, it would have taken an additional 1.5 hours of labor. We completely agree that going strictly by the codes is often very similar to throwing parts at the problem. This is actually what it sounds like this other shop was doing. We were able to determine that the mass air flow sensor was at least a partial cause of the problem after thorough diagnostics, in addition to the other recommended services that you declined. We are glad that your vehicle is running normally at this time. We hope the thermostat that you got elsewhere holds up so you do not have further problems. We wish you safe travels.
