There was no pressure and we received a fair price for our trade in. Jay was very knowledgeable about the Volvo we purchased, even though it is a GM/Buick dealership. Jay also goes out of his way to ensure you are happy with your car after the purchase making himself available to pick up your car for service and deliver it back to you after the service is complete. Jay Lewis is a great reason to purchase a car at Kent County Motors, he provides old-world service that you just don't see anymore. I would recommend Kent County Motors to anyone looking for a car. I recently purchased a 2012 GMC Sierra Pickup, I was in the market for a truck and had looked around for several months. I just was looking on their lot and found one that I liked. With no waiting for someone to help , a salesperson was willing and ready to assist. After taking it for a test drive I realized this was the truck for me. After a couple hours I was the proud owner of a new truck. I was so happy with this purchase I refferred several other customers to the same sales person and dealership and they were also tickled to death. I even have a friend who purchased his GMC somewhere else , he now gets all his work done at this dealership. I dont understand some of the reviews on this site. I understand that sometimes you want to go to a dealership to look around , however car sales associates are there to assist you in doing so. That is their job. Their job is also to sell cars. So I can see why they are excited to get out there and help people look. As for using profanity about customers, I was offered a bottle of water while we signed papers . I was even offered a snack out of the vending machine. This is a top quality and people friendly dealership and I would reccommed it to anyone. I got my truck for a bargain as it was a leftover on the lot since the year 2013 was looming. GM gave me a great finance rate as well as almost $9,000 off the sticker price with rebates and other incentives. More
I had been car shopping for a while and had finally narrowed down my decision to purchasing a used sedan for my daily business use. I had stopped in to get a closer look at a car I spotted on their web narrowed down my decision to purchasing a used sedan for my daily business use. I had stopped in to get a closer look at a car I spotted on their website. I was “unfortunately” approached by a salesman before I could even close my car door. No big deal I was hoping it would be someone to give me a tour of the car but instead it was a very overly pushy to the point of being obnoxious salesman. He walks me over to his desks which I found odd because I came to look at a car and not chat with someone at their desk. I anyhow followed a long and told him I came to their dealer to take a look at a Buick Lucerne they had. He randomly starts going into some pitch about how great the dealership is and other unrelated things to my purpose of arriving at the dealer which is to inspect and test drive a single vehicle. What was strange is that he asked me “What do I do” which seemed odd because he only had just met me and that’s not the type of question you asks someone within 1minute of them when they’re there to inquire about a specific vehicle. It seemed out of place and it was a hint as to how this salesman operated (very pushy to the point that it was obnoxious). He gets the keys for the vehicle and drives it to the front of the dealer and I over look it just noting the condition which seemed okay. He informed me that he would have to drive the car off the lot and he took me to some random parking lot. It seemed strange because I never heard of a dealer doing that before and it also put me on their predestined route to drive the car with was a “small” circle back to the dealer. As I drove the car I noticed it shook at higher speeds and the brakes made a grinding noise when pressed in. I also found out later that the sunroof was broken to the point it was sunk in. The car also had almost 3K more miles on it than advertised. The Salesman talked A LOT of nonsense between asking personal questions that weren’t his business to the usual salesman nonsense of this car is great and we can fix that. When we arrived back to the dealer after a very short ride we walked back in to his desk to discuss numbers. Basically what I learned while waiting there is that the manager sits at the desks and goes back and fourth with the Salesmen and they talk rather derogatorily about the customers they’re working with. Which, I overheard when I was waiting several times. That raised a redflag right there with the dealership but nevertheless I wanted to see what they were offering for the car. They gave me a quote that was below the blue book which is good until I realized the car has no warranty (which is should still have from the factory). They charge you 1,500-3,000 on top of what they quote for a warranty so be on the look out. I sat and listened to the salesman pitch the worse sales nonsense I have ever heard and he became pushier and pushier almost trying to force me to sign a financing paper and trying is best to get me to buy the car. It actually made me feel uncomfortable and leery about the whole ordeal. No matter how clear I made it that I wasn’t interested in financing or buying the car without thinking about it the Salesman just became more obnoxiously pushy. With sales there’s pushy and helpful and then there’s “I don’t really care about you or what you want I just want a sale pushy” And that’s the vibe I felt from this salesman. I told him I would need to think about purchasing the vehicle further and left (actually I was glad to have escaped). The next day they were closed but I came to their lot to inspect the car without interruption and saw that they Sunroof was completely broken as it was not closed but sunk in (thankfully it didn’t rain that day or night). The following day after I decided to head back to the dealer to take a second look at the car to decide if I wanted it as the first time I checked out the car it was “brief” and spent more time at the salesman’s desk with him trying to get me to buy the car than actually looking at the car itself. I had to wait a bit for the Salesman to come to the dealership when I told the manager I just wanted to “look” at the car and he calls the salesman who comes in on his day off to show me the car (which in a way was ironic because I came there when he wasn’t there purposely so I could inspect and test the car in peace the way I needed to without the added interruption). I guess the manager called the salesman and told him I was there to buy the car. I guess the words “look” and “buy” have the same definition for them. We walk out to the car and I ask him about the sunroof and the brakes and tell him upfront that I felt uncomfortable about those issues with the car. He goes on to tell me about a 27 point inspection they do to the cars. I felt like being polite and not interrupting him to tell him they must have missed the sunroof and brakes when they did the inspection. He then tries to wager with me that if I purchase the car that they’ll fix the sunroof and brakes. I call that the hostage situation method. If you meet one of the demands of a robber they’ll free a hostage. If you do that they’ll do this and so on. If I buy the car they’ll fix this. This is never a good way to purchase anything. I felt that the car should be fixed before anyone test drives it and they should make sure the sunroof was fixed and the brakes worked before even declaring to show the car to me again. Who wants to purchase a car with problems that may or may not be fixable until AFTER you’ve brought the car and its problems. I had planned to bring that up with him or use those points to negotiate a better price for the car but wanted to drive the vehicle (actually drive) the car first on a test ride. At this point the salesman seemed annoyed. He got the keys and drove us to the random parkinglot. I told him I wanted to take the car down a road I was familiar with (to drive the car under my terms and not in their little circle back to the dealer). He seemed annoyed and asked me what was the difference between one road and another (strike 1). When were testing the car he starts asking me personal questions liked “I called your phone and a woman answered (okay???) and prying questions about the business I owned (Strike 2) For example “Oh is it legal? With papers and documents? What do you sell? Can you tell me who you work with?” Questions that are rude to asks someone that isn’t interested in discussing private and unrelated business matters with a complete stranger. Business operations are “Intellectual Properties” and isn’t something business owner openly discuss with anyone that is not apart of the company let alone a complete stranger (which I made clear). We drive back to the dealership and honestly I should have gotten right back in my car and left but decided to check out the cars motor and make sure there weren’t any leaks with the motor in the common places that occur on a Buick lucerne (in their short circle they let you drive in the car doesn’t get warm enough to check the engine properly). The Saleman seemed to get upset and at my thorough look over of the vehicle and started to become sarcastic with questions like “What are you looking for” in a condescending tone. I decide to be polite and explain to him the problem areas of the Buick Lucerne as after all I already own one so I’m familiar with how it should be operating. I ask him if they had performed the “intake cleaning” which is a standard maintenance performed on the car at around 50,000 miles. It’s a process that the shop uses to clean out the carbon that builds up in the Series 3 V6 intake manifold. The salesman just became more annoyed when I ask my basic question. I politely explain to him that with a major purchase as a vehicle I want to ensure that it is running properly and has been serviced properly (which should not need to be explained). Afterwards we head inside because I asked to get a final pricing quote on the car. The Out the Door with all hidden fees and paperwork (which is what I intended to do when I came there after looking it over closer). When I asked that information such as about the warranty and additional purchase expenses the dealer and the manager just about defecated on themselves because they weren’t prepared. Usually this is the type of stuff they try to tell you when you’re sitting down and have already gone ¾ th’s into the purchase process then they slam you with the $2K vehicle warranty offers and expensive documents fees hoping that you’re too exhausted to say NO! at that point. The game is they show you a car at markup, cut some dollars off the sticker and offer it at an attractive price, then they sell you the recommended “Warranty” and so come the other fees. That 12K car you were looking at becomes 15K in no time! That’s the game that they play at Kent. I take my seat and watch as the Salesman goes back in fourth to the managers desk when I asked my “pressing” questions. It comes down to everyone I need to find out the exact numbers not being there to answer them and those working too lazy to figure them out (even the 3.7% tax). We then spend the next several minutes with the salesman trying to “force” me to fill out a financing AP that I rejected I don’t know how many times. He was so persistent with his financing application I thought HE was going to purchase the car for me. It was a pretty uncomfortable experience and I had a sense that it would be a mistake to purchase a car through them and that I should pass on the car. When I finally decided I had enough I stood up and prepared to leave then the Salesman goes to the manager one final time to inquire about my last question again and I over hear him speaking about myself derogatorily to the manager. “He’s just talking S—t” which was in reference to the polite reasons I gave him to deny buying the car they kept overly persuading me to purchase. Regardless that was (Strike 3) and it cost them my potential purchase. I had only seen this vehicle twice in my life and barely spent more than 15minutes looking at it and about 40 minutes with the salesman trying to “force” me into buying the vehicle. They are extremely pushy and hardly interested in the customers satisfaction is what I learned in the time I spent here. They did not respect my time and did not respect my space as a buyer. They try to make the decision for you, instead of letting you decide what you would like to buy for yourself. My time with Kent County Motors out of the other 6 dealerships I visited in the area placed them at the bottom of the list with me as far as car shopping goes. Very unprofessional salesmen, very pushy, and apparently they don’t check their used cars for problems quite thoroughly enough before putting them on the lot. I rate my review based on the “uneasiness” I felt while shopping at the dealer and how I was treated as a customer. The vehicle I was looking at was actually a nice car despite its problems but I didn’t feel that this was the right place to purchase it from. I skipped on this purchase solely because I didn’t not appreciate the disrespectful salesperson I hade nor the attitude/vibe of the dealership overall. As a business owner myself I have a high respect for my own customers and when I heard the manager and salespeople talking negatively about persons on their lot shopping for cars it really gave me a bad impression about them.
