As the designated negotiator in my family, I helped my daughter in her search for a new vehicle. She was in the market for a small truck, one that had the carrying capacity she needs, was good on gas, and daughter in her search for a new vehicle. She was in the market for a small truck, one that had the carrying capacity she needs, was good on gas, and affordable. The top two contenders were the Toyota Tacoma and The Ford Maverick. After extensive on line research about the models and their various “packages” — the add ons that come bundled and can significantly increase the price of the vehicle — and test driving both trucks, my daughter favored the Maverick XLT because of its sportiness, “cool” color (cactus grey), gas mileage, and lower sticker price. We were now ready to negotiate and contacted a number of dealerships to see what they offered. We learned that this truck was in short supply (particularly in the color my daughter wanted) and were told that the MSRP was for the “stripped down base model without any bells and whistles.” I’ve been around long enough to know that should not be the case (the MSRP is an important anchor in these kinds of negotiations) and recognize that market forces were at play — consumer demand was high and supply was short. After talking to a number of dealers in both North Carolina and Georgia, we luckily stumbled onto Krause Family Ford in Woodstock, Georgia where we met salesman Kishan Patel. Kishan was a breath of fresh air! Kishan knew the ins and outs of the Maverick (as well as its competitors) very well and understood the challenges a young car buyer (my daughter, not me!) faces in making daunting choices that involve a major purchase and financial commitments for years to come. My daughter explained to Kishan what we were looking for, what we thought the vehicle was worth (based on MSRP and recommendations from various automotive websites), and the add-ons she wanted. Kishan was able to gain my daughter’s (and my) trust by the way he listened to her and worked to find the vehicle for her at a price she could afford. He also helped her find an additional rebate based on her student status! Based on our prior experience, I thought he would come back to me with a price well over MSRP (which I had come to expect) but Kishan did not. He came back to us with a price that was fair and reasonable and in line with the MSRP. Kishan explained that he wanted to make sure his customers were happy with their purchases and never left feeling unsure about the price they paid or the services they received. Kishan said his prior business experiences reinforced the value of dealing with people honestly — if you treat people right, they will treat you right! And Kishan treated us right! I’ve done business with a lot of car people over a lot of years, and Kishan is at the top of my list for his integrity. We also did the financing through Krause Family Ford and received an excellent rate. Overall, I would give 5 out of 5 stars as the rating for our experience with Kishan Patel and Krause Family Ford!
