Poor experience, had. Forester we were interested in but they added an overpriced aftermarket package onto the price that was basically charging again for options that wer Forester we were interested in but they added an overpriced aftermarket package onto the price that was basically charging again for options that were already included in the sticker price. It added 2k to the price of the vehicle. When challenged on it they basically said “tough, these cars are in demand and someone else will pay it”. So I found one better equipped and way cheaper somewhere else. Then a month later they send me a credit rejection letter saying I did not qualify after they had already approved me and had the deal done until I found a better deal. Shady business practices all around. Way better dealerships around to work with than these guys. Very shortsighted to ram unwanted extra charges down people’s throats during a short supply time. Update: yesterday I received a notice that LaFontaine rejected my credit application from a month ago during this process. Strange that I was approved and ready to come pick up a vehicle at the time and now a month later you decided to push through a credit rejection to affect my credit rating, which is excellent and would never be rejected by any other dealer, have never had an issue (score right around 800). Shows a lack of integrity. Will be reporting this to Subaru corporate. Very petty. More
I drove to this dealership yesterday to buy a Subaru Crosstrek. Our salesman, Nicholas Ostoin, was very nice. We had agreed by email on price and options. Before I agreed to drive an hour down from Lan Crosstrek. Our salesman, Nicholas Ostoin, was very nice. We had agreed by email on price and options. Before I agreed to drive an hour down from Lansing and an hour back, I confirmed with Nicholas that we would get the Costco discount. He said we would. I reminded him that without the discount, it made no sense to drive to Commerce Township when we could buy the same car at the Subaru here in Lansing (they do not participate in the Costco program). So I drove two extra hours to be able to get the Costco $1000 savings. But when we got there and took the test drive, Nicholas and the new sales manager Matthew insisted that I purchase the windshield treatment ($1400), a ceramic finish and the auto start option. I pointed out that none of those were on the spec sheet THEY sent me. They also said the Costco discount would only be $80. I pointed out the normal discount is $1000. They then said they would give us the discount only if we bought the extras. I told them this was a bait and switch. I offered to finance through them as a compromise, but they insisted I buy at least one or two of the unwanted options, so we parted company. Adding options and aftermarket services that are not requested by the buyer is NOT typical. High pressure, bait and switch, and good cop/bad cop routine. No place to buy a car. I also read through the Google reviews (the one star reviews) and found a consistent pattern of this kind of stuff. There is clearly a problem at LaFontaine Subaru. More
LaFontaine Subaru is extremely unethical and not trustworthy! Do not buy from them! My son ordered a Subaru Crosstrek from them in August 2022 placing a deposit of $1,000. He was told financing cou trustworthy! Do not buy from them! My son ordered a Subaru Crosstrek from them in August 2022 placing a deposit of $1,000. He was told financing could not be completed until the car arrived. He was notified he could pick up the vehicle on October 23, 2022. As a recent employed college grad he asked about financing. He was told they ran the financing and was given a rate as a worst case scenario but that they could improve it. My husband and I went with him on day of pick up and the Sales person provided him with a rate 2% higher than the rate given as worst case scenario two days prior. We spoke to Finance Manager who proceeded to show us a computer screen to justify the higher rates and my son pointed out to him that he was showing us financing rates for RV and boats which were not applicable. Finance Manager left the office and came back and said could provide a rate slightly lower than the original rate. We asked to speak to General Manager and were told he had a headache and was sitting in office with blinds shut and unavailable. We received several different cost print outs during this time showing different prices than originally agreed. In summary, the vehicle did not have the accessories on it that my son ordered (which we were not told until in the office). We were lied to by the Finance Manager and Sales Manager multiple times and we were finally told that this was the new price of the vehicle and if we did not want to pay the higher price then we could go somewhere else. My son did receive his deposit back and now he will start the process over again at another Subaru dealer. More
I recently did oil change and after driving for about 1500 miles I happen to open my hood to show it to my nephew and to my surprise all my fluid tanks were empty (washer and coolant) and since it is fal 1500 miles I happen to open my hood to show it to my nephew and to my surprise all my fluid tanks were empty (washer and coolant) and since it is fall and very light rain, I am sure I did not use all the fluid. This makes me believe that maybe they never did what they say they did. This is not an isolated incident. I went there two times to fix the same issue… they didn't fix it the first time, however both of those services were covered under warranty so I did not have to pay but I am sure they got paid by Subaru for maybe doing nothing. During one of my previous oil changes, they broke my key fob and blamed that it was already broken I fought and resisted that they replace it. Finally, they did but it came out as if they were doing me a favor... when actually they were fixing their own mess. I discovered that my wheel lock key was not in the car and all this while for last 3/4 oil changes they said they did rotate tires.... Now I am not sure if dealerships have master keys to open any wheel lock or they simply skipped it and still charged me for it. I am paying a huge cost as my tire now have uneven tread wear on them which was discovered when I had a flat tire and AAA had to come put my spar wheel. This is also when AAA told me that they would need the wheel lock key to change my tire and then I went looking for it. All the incidents above now make me think that did they even change my engine oil, and did they really used the synthetic oil they claimed they did? I am very upset about this and it makes me believe that LaFontaine was dishonest in their service and may have lied to me all this along. Maybe I should not have ignored some of the red flags earlier and should have reported them to Subaru or LaFontaine management. I would not recommend this dealer to anyone. More
Dishonest, greedy manager at Lafontaine Subaru (3055 E West Maple Rd, Commerce Township, MI) - Avoid buying cars from this place!!! On June 18th, 2022, I took my 2018 Subaru Forester Premium with 49,22 West Maple Rd, Commerce Township, MI) - Avoid buying cars from this place!!! On June 18th, 2022, I took my 2018 Subaru Forester Premium with 49,223 miles to trade for a new 2022 Subaru. I shook hands with the manager, and got a signed contact to get a trade-in value of $21,000. I also put down $1000 for deposit. After over 3 months of waiting, on September 30th, 2022, they called me in to pickup the new 2022 Subaru. My 2019 Subaru now has 50,773 miles. They told me that, due to market fluctuations, my car trade-in value now only worth $17,000, down from $21,000 3 months ago. They refused to honor the printed contract. They kicked me out of the show room when I mentioned I will file a complain and would ask a lawyer to look into the signed contract. I took my 2019 Subaru to the Toyota Dealer Ship in Ann Arbor. I was able to trade-in my 2019 Subaru for $20,5000 and got a Toyota Rav4. I proved that my car was worth around 20K as reflected on KBB and Edmunds. The manager at Lafontaine Subaru just low-balled their customers to make a buck. They are greedy and have no integrity in their words and actions. Even a signed contract did not mean anything to them since they know most people won't file a law suit due to cost and time. I have the documents of the signed contract, deposited money receipt, and document that I was able to get a trade-in for $20.5K at another dealership. I will file a complain with the Better Business Bureau. It is a waste of time for me after over 3 months, and it caused me a lot of grief and anxiety dealing with dishonest people. More

These proble Has been In For service 4 times in less than 30 days. Each time the vehicle came back there was a new problem that did not exist before. These problems were not covered by warranty, and the cost of repairs being anywhere from $1000-$3000 with the initial problem never even being addressed. We were treated like an annoyance. The service manager Scott is very rude and refused to work with us after the second repair. Our sales person no longer returns phone calls. Found out the car had never even had an inspection when the dealer received it. Problems still not resolved and had to open a case with the Subaru corporation and is still ongoing. Do not shop at this dealer, you will get better service from a private sale. Very disappointed. This business gives dealerships a bad name. More
Service department is abominable. My college age kid brought their vehicle in for a pre-road-trip check of the transmission that was acting weird. They didn’t check the transmission denying that my kid ever told them about it. 6 days later car broke down and needed transmission replaced 800 miles from home - this took a week to do with a lot of expense. Service Manager Scott Thomsen provides horrible customer service when I called to try to root cause the service communication breakdown. This place is just awful. More
