I took my 2017 Forester in for an air conditioner service recall and to diagnosis why RAB trouble light was on. I then received back a video about all the problems with the car. Mechanic said my sonar sens recall and to diagnosis why RAB trouble light was on. I then received back a video about all the problems with the car. Mechanic said my sonar sensor was bad because he saw two marks on each side of it and said I must have backed into another car. The video goes on to say that I need a new right side ball joint, my front brakes are at 3mm and need to be replaced. I was going to have the ball joint replaced, using my aftermarket service warranty. Well, when the service advisor came back with the price my aftermarket service policy was hardly paying anything. I called them and they said LaFontaine was charging two hours labor and their national guide says job should only take 1 hour. I discussed with the service manager (Scott) why they were charging two hours and asked to see the guide that Subaru list how much time it will take to do the job. He looks it up and says, 0.9 hours. I asked why they are charging two hours. He says good question and goes and talks to the mechanic and brings him back to talk to me and states that it is an aftermarket ball joint and it is all rusty so it will take him two hours to get it out. I look under car at ball joint and I do not see an abnormal amount of rust, so I leave. I go directly to a repair facility that does free diagnosis and I tell them I need a new right ball joint as LaFontaine mechanic stated because it was loose. They put it up on the hoist and an ASE Certified mechanic comes back and says the ball joint is not bad. I show him the video from LaFontaine and he says the mechanic is running a scam. I am pretty upset and this point and decide to get another opinion from a Certified ASE mechanic and it is the same result. I now write an email to the service manager and he calls back and takes it very seriously. Next day I go to Autozone and buy brake pads because they say I had only 3mm on the front pads. My brother who just retired from Mitsubishi as a parts and service zone representative for over 30 years and who also is certified nationally by ASE comes over to help me change the brakes. We first check out the ball joint, and he can find nothing wrong, so now 3 ASE certified mechanics say ball joint is good, and LaFontaine mechanic says it is loose and needs to be replaced. We now take the right front wheel off to put on the new brake pads on take the two nuts off and we have the caliper off and then pull the pads. It appears they have half the pad left. We measure them and get 8mm on the outside pad, and 7mm on the inside pad. They are not bad so we put it back together. To make story short, I now talk to the General Manager Scott, and I agree to bring vehicle back and they will have their most senior mechanic look at the car. I agree as long and I can bring my brother along. The master mechanic gets a helper and they rock the tire back and forth, and the ball joint does not move. Now he gets a crowbar and puts big time pressure on the ball joint and he says it moves. You cannot see any visual movement. He tells us to put our hand on the ball joint, and with him plying on it with a crowbar you can feel so slight of movement, which you cannot even see. The master mechanic now pulls the left tire and removes the front outside brake pad and measures with a plastic tool and says at one end it is 4mm and at the other end it is 8mm. This car has two pistons instead of one like most vehicle have, so maybe one of pistons were hanging up at some point. They did not want to look and any other pads. I asked the master mechanic about the mechanic saying he needed 2 hours to replace the ball joint instead of the 0.9 the book says, and tell him to look at the other side that has an OEM ball joint and the same amount of rust that is not very bad, and he would not comment. The reason it has a aftermarket ball joint because the Forester was hit in the wheel area. My perception now is General Manager wanted to get us away from the Master Mechanic and go talk about it. We went nowhere, and my brother said we are just wasting our time. We leave my brother gets in the car but they still want to talk to me and ask me what I want. I say I want the mechanic at least punished but should probably be fired. I tell them what I want is to stop people who do not have the mechanical knowledge that I have, to not get ripped off by this mechanic. Basically, they ask me what I what to make this go away, and Service Manager says do I want I free ball joint, no why do I need one, the one there is fine. He then asked if I what new brakes. I say no because I will probably be able to drive another 25,000 miles. We are at stand off and I walk away. My advice is to be very careful of LaFontaine Service department as they appear to have mechanics committing fraud, and I and my brother’s perception of the Master Mechanic inspecting the car was he was trying to defend the mechanic that we believe is committing fraud. Since now management is involved and is relying solely an the master mechanics opinion they now implicate the entire dealership. I will try to post the video from LaFontaine and the picture of my brake pads that they say need replacing. I will also try to post the estimate that LaFontaine provided to me. The estimate for all the work they want to do on my vehicle was $2037.15 not including tax. More
After reviewing Outback’s at several local dealerships, I decided to go to Lafontaine Subaru to test drive one that had the color combination I preferred. I know the sticker price, the going rate for such cars elsewhere, and what interest rates are available, yet they tried to deceive me into a much higher cost. They were unapologetic when confronted about it. Another dealership gave me correct information the first time and asked if they could do more, without making excuses. I will never give Lafontaine and their Family “Deal” another thought. The sales manager failed to make any effort to follow up. More
I had to get maintenance done on my Impreza. I called the dealership for a service appointment, very helpful in scheduling one for the same day. However I did not have a ride back and it was farther than their shuttle service so they arranged for a valet service for free. it was about 22 miles away from your dealership but they still arranged for a valley who was courteous and respectful of my vehicle. Worked with Corey from the service department who is extra helpful in helping me decide what needed to be done. Instead of discussing with the advisor they had a better way to communicate over text and online interface. Very modernized and user-friendly More

I do not recommend shopping at LaFontaine but if you do, don’t let the Family Deal fool you. And use their Meet or Beat Price Guarantee (you’ll need it) because their price out the door was $1200 and $1800 don’t let the Family Deal fool you. Unfortunately the best they would do for me was the Family Deal.(their family benefited, not me). The 2 competitors out the door prices came in after I signed the deal so the management dept. said there was nothing they would do to help me. The sales dept wanted to upsell and the financial dept. assured me I was getting the best deal possible. I was hesitant to sign but did so because I needed the vehicle right away and was assured the deal was the best I could get. It was not. More
Do not trust salesman ( Nick) to honor the deal you make. We added the extended warranty on the deal. My mistake was trusting Nick to transfer our agreed vehicle price to the paperwork. I finally talk to the sales manager (John) who denied making the deal. My mistake was trusting a car salesman and not double checking what I signed. I’ll never make that mistake again and I’ll never buy a car at Lafontaine again. More

I can not speak to the service end of this dealership , the sales side is terrible , they'll lie , they'll misrepresent the vehicles they're selling to you and even price and advertise a car with a different trim package than the package that comes with the vehicle ( I received an LE that was advertised as an SE) and paid accordingly. I will just say make sure that everything is as stated , just because they tell you something , if it's not in writing don't trust them , this is just my personal experience with this dealer and I want to save as many people as I can the same disappointment that I'm feeling.
