We learned easily from Larry Roesch that the cost of VW certification for a pre-owned vehicle is $750, but after two hours of persistent questioning the Autobarn salesperson reluctantly told us it would be "somewhere around $1800 to $2000." And unlike the Autobarn, Larry Roesch does not charge $275 for a second set of car keys. They don't charge you extra for cleaning the car, either. Basically, Larry Roesch was upfront and honest and answered all of our questions and concerns. They didn't tack on extra fees. They were friendly and helpful. Their pricing was fair. I would definitely go back to Larry Roesch in the future. More

This was my 6th Volkswagen purchase and the best by far. They did not have the exact car in stock that I was looking for but promised to deliver within 48 hours. I picked up my car the next day equipped exactly as promised, clean and filled with gas. DON'T BUY FROM LARRY ROESCH VW, BENSENVILLE Straight off I'd have to say I will never buy another car, new or used, from Larry Roesch Vol here... DON'T BUY FROM LARRY ROESCH VW, BENSENVILLE Straight off I'd have to say I will never buy another car, new or used, from Larry Roesch Volkswagen in Bensenville, and I highly recommend you look elsewhere as I believe that they are deceptive and frankly could care less about you as long as you buy a car. They do nothing to quash the dirty reputation of used car salesmen, and everything to support it. The red flag should have gone up as soon as I sat down with salesman J.R. Roman and was informed that the car was only "Pre-Certified", not "Certified Pre-Loved" and "Volkswagen Certified" as it said in the ad on the auto selling website where I saw the car. What's the difference, you ask? About $1500 to get the car "Certified", whereupon you receive the 2-year, 24000 mile warranty that Volkswagen says comes standard with all "Certified Pre-Loved" cars. Oh, I got excuses for why the ad would say that, but really that's all they were , excuses, for what amounts to blatant false advertising. So, I decide that even with the extra fee for the Certification and resulting warranty, the car is still within my price range. I suppose the next red flag should have gone up when it only took about 20-30 minutes to certify the car. They somehow missed a burnt-out brake light and a fog light. I had to drive back to Bensenville from Evanston the next day to wait an hour to get something fixed that resulted from what is possibly the most basic thing to check on a car - the external lights. General Manager Nick said "Oh, that must have happened between pre-certification and when you bought it." But, Nick, didn't I pay you $1500 for the Certification, not the pre-certification? Nice excuse, but I paid for the car to be certified when I drove it off the lot, not however many months and test drives before I drove it off the lot. Another issue that seemed minor at the dealer, before I bought the car, was the washer fluid being low. J.R. had them top it off before I left. Problem solved, right? Wrong. I'd been keeping the car at my parking garage at work and driving my old car because of cold weather. The next time I went to drive the car, about four days after I parked it in the garage, the washer fluid was again low. I thought, they either put in just enough to get the light to go off, or there's a leak. Unfortunately, as I found out after putting in a gallon of washer fluid only to come back to the car a few days later to find all of the blue fluid frozen on the ground below the car, it was a leak. Keep in mind, both of the problems mentioned so far (exterior lights and washer resevoir) are explicitly listed on the VW Certification checklist, where Volkswagen claims: "To become certified, a VW faces a long line of hurdles. We look for any signs, and we mean any, that the car isn't up to snuff. If approved, we then subject it to our 112 point inspection. This varies from intense on-lift examination to a road test to ensure maximum drivability. We turn these cars inside out, then outside in. Trust us, they'll feel so new, the only thing giving them away is the odometer." Uh, yeah, "trust" you, a used car dealer...it was turned so inside out that you missed a brake light and a fog light. Right. So what else did they miss? Keep in mind, in the time frame I'm referencing I'd driven the car about 200 miles, and 80 of those miles were to and from the dealer in Bensenville and my home in Evanston. Next, after sitting in the garage at work undriven for a few days, upon start the Coolant light comes on. I check the coolant, it's low. That's nice. So when I have it in for the washer fluid issue, which according to the receipt was "Replaced Washer Pump", they check the cooling system and claim no leaks found, although the fact that they say they "topped off coolant", which makes me wonder when I'll be bringing it in for the actual problem with the cooling system. When brought the car in for the washer fluid and cooling system issues, I dropped the car off on Thursday night, indicating that I'd like to pick it up on Saturday. 5:00pm rolls around on Friday, no call about the status of the car, so I had to call to talk to "my technician" Jorge Garcia. He informed me the car wouldn't be ready 'til Monday as "they had to wait for a part". In my entire life, I've never once had a car repair facility not call me about the status of my car...especially when it wasn't going to be ready for 3 more days when I was expecting it the next day...until I went to Larry Roesch. Well, hopefully that's it for what they missed with their "certifcation inspection" (a term which I'm using in the loosest possible manner), right? WRONG. A little over a month after buying the car and about 300 miles along, I go out on a mild workday morning and am greeted by a car that won't start. A jump doesn't start it either.
